Title: Original 1969 badge with rivet removal
Post by: DeepTrouble on August 27, 2011, 07:49:18 PM
Even though I love the originality of the Aquasport nameplate on the side of the boat, I am thinking about removing it (preserving it of course for repair and re-installation if desired) and just using a heavy duty decal, tastefully done like I have seen on some of the resto's. Anybody have any hints on how to remove the rivets that are holding the plate in place?

Deep,
Use a 5/32" drill bit to drill off the heads, then take a small punch and hammer to drive the rivet stems through the holes.  Yeah, the old stems fall into never, never land, but you'd be surprised what else is in there!

I worked in aerospace for 14 years, hollow stems, solid, cherrylock, I've seen them all, and drilled out a few...

oh, i already found some 1970's style life preservers and anchors in the forward anchor hatch, my father got a kick out of seeing the old style preservers. they were a bit funky though so we tossed them!  and thanks for the tips, will do
