I have the above mentioned motor and have been encountering a little problem. When i am idling/engaging reverse or forward, I have a stalling problem. Although the motor starts right back up, it is something I would like to straighten out. The plugs are brand new, water pump brand new and new thermostats. Please help and thanks in advance!

Nephews 175 on his just purchased Chris Craft is doing the same thing, he had the carbs redone, and fuel system checked out, still happening, maybe timing not advancing?? Will be interested also to hear suggestions.

Check the in gear idle speed recommended by the manufacturer. The information for idle speed in forward gear, and the timing setting should be located on the air (attenuator) box cover in front of the carbs. You will need a reliable tachometer, timing light and some basic tools to adjust the idle and set the timing. You may having nothing more than an engine that is idling to low.

I could be wrong, but I think those motors have a shift interrupt switch. I'm not sure what the symptoms are if one is going bad, but it's something to look into.

Some times they need a smaller air intake idle jet then what comes on them. When their new, their ok. But as they get older they can’t pull enough fuel. Replace that jet on all six carbs and it may solve your problem. I had the same problem on my 91 175 and I ran engine tune through it and it did solve the problem for a while. Sooooo I changed the air intake jets and that did work. Who knows for how long. thier on the front of the carb. Its the second one down. can't miss it. very easy to replace.
