Hello everybody,
I recently purchased a 1999 215 Explorer. Has one 27 series battery behind starboard side hatch.
I don't feel comfortable having only one battery. I have seen other 215 ads that say they have dual
batteries.
Can I assume they fit two series 24 batteries in the same compartment as my one series 27?
Thanks for the info.

I have a '99 215 DC. It has two batteries in the starboard console. Not sure what series the batteries are. I check when I get home next week. I'm away on a work trip...

It's easy to tell without looking at the batteries. Looking at the top if they are almost square they are
series 24. (I'm estimating maybe 9"X12")
If they are definitely a rectangle ( maybe 9"X16") they are a series 27.
Let me know after you check and thanks for the info!

Charlie,
Remember, the DC and the Explorer are 2 different animals. The DC has plenty of room inside the starboard console (under the helm) for 2, maybe even 3 batts. Your explorer doesn't have this console.
That being said, you can fit 2 group 24s in the aft compartment, as this was an option on the Explorers back then...

Bob,
Thanks for the heads-up. I didn't even notice that is was a DC, and not an Explorer.
Dual 24's it is then!

Like Bob said YES you can. Its a TIGHT fit even with 24 series batteries but it can be done. I just finished adding a 2nd battery and a perko switch. I had to move around alot of the wiring in order to make it fit BUT it can be done!
