Okay so I figured I would start a whole new thread. Ya'll wanted more pics so here ya go!
Most are pretty self explanatory but this one is kind of interesting. I was surprised when I started washing her off this afternoon. Yes the rubrail is bright blue, really dirty but blue. I noticed the endcaps on the transom and low and behold they are the army man green! Leftover stock?
Its been sitting under an oak tree for a year or so and it is filthy! I have yet to find a water blister in the gel. Very few stress cracks and only a few normal chips and minor dock rash.

Really big fish box, anybody got any ice?

My favorite part so far, the anchor locker on the cap on the bow.

Fold down motor well door.

Check out the latches on the door. Behind each plate is a small piece of teak.
The teak is good shape, just needs refinishing!
I guess 84 was a crossover year, this one has hawse pipes.
Transom livewell.

The main thing is I made it back okay in Saturday traffic on I-75 and she fits in the driveway!

I like Hawes Pipes!! Well done Lewis, you have her home, safe and secure. Now, get that brush and soap out!!!
BTW, I can find out if Taco makes the endcaps in blue...
-
CONGRATS on a great find. Very nice Lew, I know your excited, talking with you on the phone you are pumped. Looking forward to some fishing and hangin out at the island this summer

Hey brother Lewis,
She is smokin hot; where did this design come from? Shes got the best of the of 70's with the improvements needed. I honestly think you have the best of the old and new. I love the fold down splashwell and rear internal bait boxes, old style rod racks, plus the real anchor box in the bow. If there was ever a bridge between the 70's and 80's you have it! Man I would spend the money on this boat! What the heck is she? Some kind of hybrid between between the 70's and a CCP? The CCP's started in the late 70's but in 84`were they playing with a retro design? Nice find! Unless I'm out of the loop, I havent seen many like yours!
-
Nice find Lewis.
1984 indeed is a strange year. Once you get into the models, you'll see that it tends to resemble an 82/83 model. I have those same green end caps on the rub rail and the hawse pipes that lead to "hidden" cleats. Even the Aqua font and striping hint to a earlier year. I sold my motor box door to JD but it too had the teak backing behind the barrel bolts.
Look in the gallery and you'll find an 84 section. The models look different than what we have. Maybe not unique but it gives you something to ponder. What was happening at Aqua that year? I always felt that my CCP was made up of "extra parts" from past years. Who really knows.
Good luck. :thumright:
-
I don't remember seeing too many like this one as well. I totally agree it has the look of the 70s with the open gunwales, hawse pipes, shear line, the whole bit. Then it has additions that I guess Aquasport over time had customers ask for. Starboard side transom box is dry storage, not a livewell. Its where the oil tank resided. VRO has been disconnected and the PO was mixing. The motor cranks on the second switch hit when cold but once warmed up first time, everytime. The PO also had a sunbrella custom console cover made and a full sunbrella boat cover. Other than one tear they are in great shape.
Starboard dry storage.

Not too many hours showing.
This is the worst gouge I have found.
I like the fact it has a casting deck. I also like the bow rail, its welded stainless and only about 8" high.
One more addition the PO made, a custom stainless anchor holder roller thingy. After being on flounderpounders boat I know this is a great addition!
-
Assuming shes still a woody under the skin; hows the deck coring and transom? I would like to have that bow rail on my 73'. I never was crazy about the 60's fabbed aluminum rail. Does she have the 18 degree deadrise of the newer models?
-
Mannnnn Brother Lew she is a beaut.
You have a "one of kind" with that one. I have never seen that model before. Like fitz said, Some kind of hybrid. She's too cool. Looks like its in great shape. Doesn't appear to have any rust on/around the hardware
So what are you waiting for, go fishing :D
-
I developed a theory about this boat while riding the Troybuilt this morning.(Imagine that!) I always thought that AS was going after Seacraft market share with CCP offering (lots of similarities). For some reason; maybe trying to find the niche, and maybe listening to customers!; they went back towards their roots that made them so successful in the old days and offered this "bridge" design that had the 70's look with more offshore friendly ammenities. Maybe she even self bails at rest with two guys at the stern!
-
very nice!lots of potential there, whats the story on the powerplant?useable or repower? :salut:
-
Nice job brother Lew! Especially like those rear hatches...sure is a plus.
Glad she's home safely..Looking forward to seeing her!
-
In all the years here I don't think I've seen the model that you have - Maybe a 222 Striper? I like the anchor box. When I rebuild my 170 that is a possibility along with "hybriding" a lot of things to make it more user friendly.
Nice find Lewis.
-
Thanks for all the responses!
Thank you jdupree for the idea for "The Works" toilet bowl cleaner for the rust!
It really does work great!
My other new best friend is Clorox Cleanup. If any of you have discoloration on any vinyl this stuff is absolutely amazing!
So I cleaned all day and now I have a new boat!
The cooler seat was a mess.
Before.

After.

The very blue rubrail. If any of you have black crud on your rubrail my idea seems to work. I thought about the sample of green that I sent gran398. The black was just on top. The material underneath was fine, so I was sitting there scrubbing away and not making much progress and I thought why don't I just sand off the top layer. Went in the garage and got some 320 wet sand paper and tried it. Its going to be a lot of work but it does work. I mean this thing is REALLY BRIGHT blue!
Then it was off to the deck, a nice even spray of the clorox cleanup and a dab of softscrub on my scrubbing brush and I have a new deck!

And one parting shot!
Oh and Pete the motor runs just needs a tuneup and a new trim motor. The PO had just replaced all the power packs and the voltage regulator.
-
Cleanup make such a difference Lewis! So now how many Aquasports have you driven?
I would guess I know which one is your favorite - and in your driveway!
-
Lewis,
YOU HAVE BEEN A BUSY BOY!!!
Man, she looks awesome!! That fairlead for the anchor (even RickK didn't no that nomenclature) is a nice piece of work, that is a lifting eye there, just make sure it is tied to the hull with threaded rod, if not, treat it as a regular cleat...
You have battery switches (2 that I noted), that is a good thing. Now, onto the console, some good pics outside and inside...
Well done, my friend...you'll need some blue and red LEDs, gives you what Bridget would want...

I found a little newer version in the photo gallery with the anchor locker and rear inboard wells. All models, 1986-87, different graphics and blue interior but the same design. Whats interesting is it is not shown in the 1984 offering, only CCP's are shown. Lewis, what are your hull ID numbers? She did clean up nice! I wonder why we havent seen more of these?
-
HIN ends in 83C, October of 1983, right?
I don't know either, The pics you were talking about in the 1986 all models brochure look similar but if you look close it doesn't have the boxes in the back like mine. This one originally had captains chairs which the PO took out. Of course like you said the graphics are totally different, kind of like in the movie Hot Tub Time Machine when they first go skiing and everybody on the slopes has on dayglo colored skiwear! I'm now leaning more towards a special order hull. I just don't know anymore, all I do know is I REALLY like it!
-
Lewis,
She cleaned up nice. :thumleft:
If you haven't already, look at the 1980 docs in the Gallery
http://www.classicaquasport.com/gallery ... 572/page/1 (http://www.classicaquasport.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/2845/sort/1/cat/572/page/1)
Notice the line drawing in the lower left corner. That's basically your boat.
Fast forward 4 years and a few changes (console), teak rode hatch gone, hawse pipes and there ya go.
You have the combo blue/brown pin stripping and brown Aqua lettering (fuzzy about the fish hook).
My 84 also has the blue/brown pin stripe.
Nice having a "little different" model isn't it? :salut:
-
Nice Boat Lewis! What a find.
That stern-box setup is typical of many boats, if you haven't thought so already, when you take her out, make sure you fill the livewell up to offset the weight of the batteries in the starboard box-
How's the deck?
Can't wait to see the boat in person :salut:
-
Nice job Lew, she looks great :thumleft:
I'm with SB on the lighting addition! :queen:
-
Batteries are already in the console. It also has a 1 1/2 year old new 70 gal tank. The white spots on the deck are part of the worst caulking job I have ever seen! Anybody got any ideas on silicon removal? There is one soft spot on starboard side side of console but for now its nothing I am going to address. Its only about a foot long and about 8" wide. I like the light idea as well, Bridget not so much. It should be a fun ride and we ca't wait to splash her!
Capt Bob the stripes are light blue, dark blue, and gold metallic. The logo is also gold metallic.
-
Hey Lewis,
Try some spray brake cleaner on the silicone finger painting job. I discovered it nocks the poo poo out of 5200 without hurting the gelcoat.
-
Lew,
Check your msgs, I sent you pics of an old style verses the newer fast trac TTU.

It must drive you crazy being able to see that damn silicone from two stories up! Looks to me like the PO had a wad of silicone stuck on bottom of his shoe and just walked all over the boat before he got out...Brake Cleaner and an old credit card or swipe style room key and a tooth brush should do it.
-
Lewis,
There is a caulk remover they sell at lowes,it comes in a spray bottle, look for it in the caulking aisle,
http://www.lowes.com/pd_88383-11743-411 ... %2Bremover (http://www.lowes.com/pd_88383-11743-411-17_0__?productId=3102593&Ntt=caulk+remover&pl=1¤tURL=%2Fpl__0__s%3FNtt%3Dcaulk%2Bremover)
Good luck! :salut:

Lewis
The boat turned out nicer than I thought it would. I have a 86yr 22ccc look alot of the same but mine does not have to stern boxes no anchor locker either, I do have three locker on the casting deck. the rest looks the same. I just took a 200 etec off and going with a 300HPDI yamaha just for shitz and grins. Building a 250etec to go on later.
-
Looks like you found a "diamond in the rough" for what you got her for! Love the spashwell area! You also have the same color deck that I had on the 200 CCP. I did like that color!
-
Lewis, This is too wierd, I live 500 miles from Savannah, and you and I bought our boats within a 5 mile radius of eachother.... "The aquasport zone... do not attempt to adjust your computer, you are no longer in control, they are" I bought mine at the Savannah Yacht Club on Whitemarsh Island.
-
FP, great observation. JD, noticed the "Tahitian Tan" straight off :thumright:
Lew you've found a honey. We're happy as a clam with your new ride!
Good advice by the boys on the caulk removal.
That cleat in the anchor box appears to be a galvanized dock cleat as installed by the PO. No problem.
Bottom line, sweet ride, good to excellent price....keep us posted.
-
Lewis, I have seen many worse console wiring... :thumright:
-
Lewis,
Here's a pic of the trim/tilt assembly on a 225 OceanPro. I would definitely be PB Blasting those retaining pins...
-
Thanks Bob! I ordered a OMC service manual last night off sleazbay for 24 bucks, it should be here in a few days. I have been blasting it with liquid wrench and PB for two days. I went by and talked to my local "boat" guy today and he said I will still need to pull the motor if I am changing just the motor or the whole thing. Something about a bolt that holds the housing on the frame that you can't get to without removal. Can anyone confirm this?
Oh and Pete its a 1994 Johnson 175 Oceanrunner.
-
Lewis,
I scoped the install out pretty thoroughly. While you are correct about the fwd port side bolt on the trim motor being inaccessable, it looks to me like remove the trim limit pin, remove the snap-rings on the 2 big pins, drive them out, remove old assy, install new assy in reverse order, good to go...
I may be wrong...
-
a custom stainless anchor holder roller thingy. Is this a technical term. Talk to Flounderpounder about LEDs.

Don't worry Rob, I'll be in contact real soon!

SHe cleaned up real nice. I am embarrassed to admit my wiring looked the same before I got into it with cutters

Bob,
Your not wrong, and Lew... your mech should know on the newer fast trac TTU the engine does not need to be removed. Upper pin, remove the snap rings, drive it out, have engine supported on the tilt lock or/and a piece of wood between bracket and engine. get the tilt ram out of the journal from the engine bracket, pull it aft, should rotate on the lower pin. then try and retract the tilt ram back into the cylinder some, this will give you some wiggle room, may have to loosen the relief screw if the motor won't turn. Now for the fun one. The lower pin is always the bad one. Remove snap rings, get a large brass drift punch, (never use steel, if the pin was going to come after some convincing, if you mushroom the end with a steel drift, the game is over, refer to step below). Use a 2 or 3 Lb hand held sledge hammer (BFH). And begin.... some heat is ok, be careful, the cast aluminum parts will break. the pin is corroded inside the journal of the TTU, not usually the small journal areas of the bracket, that is why it is so hard to get penetrant in there. If all this fails refer below.
1ea Quality Recip Saw (Saws-all)
2ea The very best bi metal SHORT blades you can find
Get in between the gap of the engine bracket and the TTU journal where the pin is, stay to the TTU side, so you don't marr up the engine bracket. NOTE : I tried removing the remainder of the pin in the TTU after saws-all removal, using a 15 ton press, pin never moved, casting of the ttu was destroyed. Point being, sacrifice the TTU, and get that pin cut out. The pieces in the engine bracket journals will knock right out. Remove your TTU/Anchor. And install your pretty new shiny one. Hopefully on it's way today.
Marc

Thanks Marc and Bob! I have learned so much from both of you!
I tried the credit card idea as a removal tool for the silicone, and it does work, slow as heck because you have to run it down each cut in the nonskid and then run it perpendicular to those. But it does work!
Still cleaning and figuring stuff out.
She is getting there!

Check out how clean the hull bottom is, absolutely unbelievable! It still shines like new and hardly has a mark on it.
I opened the access holes in the tank hatch and this is what it looks like on the inside. The fuel gauge doesn't work, I am thinking its probably the ground, but that is my next project.

Can you believe the silicone job? Just slap it on there and let the next guy (me) worry about it.

Here are some more pics.

This is what the splashwell door looks when lowered. It is flush with the deck. When lowered, you can actually walk all the way back to the motor.

Lewis,
Don't be surprised if you need a new sender. After verifying continuity of the ground between the gauge and the tank, pull the ground off and touch it to the pink with the ign in the run position. The gauge should peg to full...
BTW, what's in that starboard aft storage compartment? Looks like the F/W separator needs a new home...

That is where the battery switches reside. Former home of the oil tank.

There is the separators new home! God, I hate it when they are out in the open like that! Just looks, kinda, well, unplanned...or even like a Whaler!

I went by and talked to my local "boat" guy today and he said I will still need to pull the motor
For some reassurance...I pulled my trim system (fastrak) off of my 1996 150 ocean runner last week because it got stuck in the up possition and my release screw is stripped. I had no problem just supporting the bottom of the engine on a ladder, pulling the retaining pins out (well, tapping them out with a brass pipe and small hammer), and then was able to pull the trim and tilt system out and set it on a table to mess with. It did retract, but it wasn't because of anything I did to it. I think the system just decided on it's own that it was time to retract.
Here's a bad pic of it removed and the motor is obviously still on the boat...

Thanks for the reassurance guys and the pics.
If anyones rubrail is discolored my fix really works well.
This is what it looks like before sanding.

I mean it is nasty! I have tried all different kinds of cleaners letting them soak and it just doesn't touch it. So a little elbow grease (and some soaked in water with a little dish detergent in it) 150 grit wet or dry sandpaper. Sand carefully and this is what happens.
After sanding with the 150 I will go to 400 grit then 1000 grit then 2500. I tried this in one spot about 2 feet long, after it dried it was very blue but had a white cast to it. This cast is from all the extremely small scratches left from the sanding. I got my buffer back yester day and with some of the compound I have buffed over this area. Guess what? It shines like it is new! The buffing deepens the color back to where it should be and it no longer has the white cast. It got dark on me so no pics of what it looks like when done but I'll get some tomorrow.
This is my point. If you have a green or blue like this one and we all know you can't get any more this might be worth a try.

Thank you Lewis.
I don't know if I could handle another "Warren Commission" sized report, this time on blue rub rail.
PS... Scott, I'm just messin' with ya son.

Naw bro, thought it was great! We gave it one helluva effort. Not sure if ever reported the final outcome....hope I did, should go back and ck....but seems like they said 500 feet at 7.50 a foot...Jeez.

We think that Lee Harvey Rubrail acted alone on his quest for the Evergreen, Soldier man rub rail aquistion. I guess we will be sanding our rub rails with Lewis until we unlock the supply chain mystery...

When I bought this thing last month little did I know that the registration (in the past) had some issues. After talking to several different CS agents with the DNR in GA I found out that when the PPO (previous, previous owner) had registered the hull around 2001 he registered it with the wrong HIN. No one figured this out for about 3 or 4 years. When he went to re-register it in 2004 he gave them the correct HIN and they gave him a new set of registration numbers. He registered it again in 2007, then sold the boat to the guy I bought it from. Right after I bought it I called it in to change the registration into my name and when I gave them the number they said it wasn't good any more. HUH???? This guy had never changed the numbers on the bow and this boat has been riding around for at least 10 years with the wrong numbers on it!
In addition to that the sticker from the state was dated 2010 so it just went out a few months ago. When I read that number to the CS agent they said that the sticker was still in the PPO's name. HUHHH? again! When I called the guy that I got it from and asked him about not changing it over his answer was" well the sticker was good till 2010 and he hadn't used the boat in a year".
The CS agent had told me the only way I could get it changed over to me was if the PO had his bill of sale from the PPO. The only other option is sending a certified letter to the PPO and having him either answer or not answer the letter. If he answers the letter he can fill out a form and send it in and the DNR will change it over. Or if he doesn't answer the letter I could petition the DNR to change it after 30 days of it not being answered.
When i asked the guy about the old bill of sale he said " sure I got it!" I was like "Thank God!"
I sent it in and just got notice that it was processed 2 days ago so now "Slipaway" is now officially mine!
I have waited to put the correct numbers on her until this crap was figured out so tonight I put her numbers on. They are pretty close in color to the rubrail. Now all I need is the sticker!
I am glad Georgia doesn't require a title, just the bill of sale.

Dang, Lew when I started reading that saga, I was getting a sick feeling in my stomach, just glad everything fell into place. I know you must have been thinking all kinds of stuff, you always hear about this kind of stuff, but then when you experience it whew....

Lewis,
BTW, if you think your wiring looks bad, check out my latest customer, a 2200V Pathfinder...

I got the new wheel on, finally. This boat came with a custom made sunbrella cover. About a month ago I had put it on because there was a bunch of rain coming. Thunderstorm showed up about 4 in the morning with a lot of heavy rain. I woke up and looked out at the boat and the whole cover was collapsed into the hull and now I had a bathtub full of water. Got it off the boat and found that every single seam had been ripped open, the thread was gone. I had it resown by a lady up on Lake Lanier and just put it back on for the first time. I think she did a great job.

I haven't finished polishing yet, but this is what it looks like now on the deck around the anchor locker. You can't sit anything up there anymore or it will slide off.

Looking good, Lewis!! I like teak...
BTW, those little twist catches for the lower console door, at least they are still available should those ones really start to pit (they do that, you know). Don't know if you've thought of this, but putting the little bumper pads on the corners of the door reciever can really snug up the fit between the door and the frame. I've found those little twist catches allow the door to rattle over time...

Looks great Lew! Like the new wheel...AND the shine :salut:
