I was wondering what everyone's favorite two stroke oil is. Has anyone tried the West Marine TCW3? or the Star Brite Premium?
-
I have been using Pennzoil Premium Plus for years with no issues.
-
As long as its TCWIII, I like CHEAP...
My favorite is Ying Sang Lee III.

That's the one with the special melamine additive right?
I've been using Pennzoil XLF (X-tra Life Formula) in the old Black Max - it's made for older 2-stroke engines that can double as skeeter killers. To help older engines work better, I think it has a little Geritol, some Poligrip, and maybe some Viagra in it. :thumleft:
-
What I do is go to SAMs and buy a case of TCW3 qts and then refill my gallon bottles. 3 gals for $30ish compared to $30 for one at a marine store.
Now my secret is out and oil prices will go up....

Yep John, that Ying Sang is the best I've found. But that Penz XLF is right there, fabrique' en Chine too. Its like dog food for maturer dogs. Graybeards, if you will. And yep, it does have those special additives you mentioned. For daily use. Makes her stand right up. If the moment is right, SHE will be ready.
There's a switch.

So how much do you usually pay for a case there?

All I see listed at my nearest Sam's Club is Havoline TC-W3
$40.52/12 qt. case
$13.50/gal by my old brain.

I just bought some of West Marines Premium TC-W3 2-cycle oil. It's on sale right now for $14.99 a gallon. I found out this is made by Star Brite and is the same product as their premium synthetic blend TC-W3 oil. I have read good reviews of it on other forums.

i usually get my oil from advance auto parts,
PENNZOIL Premium Plus 2-Cycle TC-W3
roughly $15/gal

+1, It regularly goes on sale from 22.95 to 14.99, so I also make sure I pick up a few gallons when it does.

All kidding aside, have used the West lube, ran well. And nice to know that it is formulated by Starbrite; they produce a quality product.
-
I'll second the Penzoil, I used the synthetic back when I was building jetski motors, and I dis-assembled several motors that exhibited little scuffing and nearly no wear on the cylinder walls. Also very good on carbon depositis. Good stuff.

It was in the low 30s when I bought my last case. So around 10-11/gal - looks like it's gone up, again.
I checked it at West Marine at the time and it was $29/gal at that time.
Sounds like the sale at West for 14 is ok - what am I, nuts!!! They have us thinking that is ok now....

Good to hear the positive results with the Pennzoil Plus.
I have been buying it at Advance Auto Parts for a LOT less than West charges for theirs and it seems to be working okay but it's nice to hear about somebody disassembling engines with no oil caused problems:-)
Thanks for a great informational site.

Hi Can someone tell me why I was told to only run Evenrude XD=50 in my 115 Johnson? And I must mention it's $29-$33.00 a gal. Is it only because it has a VRO/OMS system, or am I just stupid?
-
What year is the engine?
-
I have a 2000, it's a j115vxsss?
-
The mfr always wants to sell their oil...
-
Well, I'm getting yamalube for $17 a gallon, bulk right down the street, so I'm hangin with the OEM, This discussion always emerges on all the forums, I say run what makes you comfortable, I agree there is a lot of mystery to all the OEM loyalty, who really blends it for them, and what are the REAL comparsions ingredient by ingredient?? But at $17 a gallon, I'm comfortable, and the general consensus is these big block HPDI's are pretty finicky, the previous owner put 729 hours on it, all on Yamalube, so for now, I'm staying with it.

Sam's selling TCW3 oil at $10.68/gal right now.

I thought the 115hp motors that year were all carb fed and not fuelies and a check of the BRP site for your year motor shows carbs so...
If it's carbed, then you're wasting your money. That oil is made for the E-Tecs and while it may help your old motor with carbon build up, it's cheaper just to de-carb with the standard de-carb stuff once a year if you must. You're just burning it up (the oil) so why not burn something cheaper. I don't think they even made the XD series oil in 2000 so use what was factory recommended (TC-W3 spec).
If you must use the factory oil, buy the XD- 30. It's a little cheaper.

Thanks Capt. Bob I knew it had carbs, The previous owner told me he always ran xd50. I'll see what they suggest (factory) and check it out Thanks. :salut:
