Title: Deck painting
Post by: KRoy on July 06, 2010, 12:47:01 PM
I have a 1996 Osprey 200.  I want to paint the deck just to add some color to the boat.  Nothing wrong with the current paint, I just like boat projects.  What steps should I go thru before rolling or brushing on the new paint?  The deck has some of the golfball dimpled floor while some of it has the sandy, rough, non-skid texture.

Thanks

Depends on how carried away you want to get with it and what type of paint or gel coat you are going to use.  I used Pettit Easypoxy one part polyurethane topside paint with a nonskid additive.  I just sanded my decks with a  DA sander and rolled on a few coats.   I'm really happy with the results.  http://www.pettitpaint.com/catalog_browse.asp?ictNbr=39 (http://www.pettitpaint.com/catalog_browse.asp?ictNbr=39)

KiwiGrip looks like some good, simple to use stuff.  Ive never used it, but a few on this site have.

Here's another idea that the commercial guys seem to like:

Thanks for all the advice.  I should be happy with the perfectly good deck I have but I always have to tinker with things.
