What's the opinion of Load Rite Elite series trailers with metal box tubing bunks with what looks like just a 1" carpeted board?
My neighbor's Outrage
Looks like brackets to the wood every foot or so.

JJ,
Like the idea. Should the wood rot, a whole lot easier to replace those top pieces than the whole bunk... :thumleft:

That's what I was thinking. Initial cost would be a bite but then it would be over. Last year I bought a 2"x4"X10' galvanized box tubing for a replacement tongue for just over $100. That was at a $/foot price so two of them (or even 2x3 on a smaller boat) the proper length and some brackets and one would be in business.

I was at Maximo Boat ramp a few months back and saw a trailer with composite bunks. Looked interesting as the bunks did not have any carpeting. I wondered what the effect of driving a hull up on those bunks would be. Definately seemed to be a good idea, low maintenance.

I have heard of the composite bunks but it's hard for me to visualize the hull not getting scratched up over time.

JJ, that looks like a fine unit. Well made. And the composit bunks could be cool, with slicks on the top...As GF says..."Boat on da ground, boat on da ground, lookin' like a fool wit-cher boat on de ground..."
