The port side mount on my 97 200 rude has corroded thru the cover plate, anyone know
whats involved in replacing the mount or both of them since i'm at it.
-
Circle,
Are you talking about the mount where the motor bolts to the transom?
-
The mounts are just before the lower unit.I'll try to get a pic up.

Circle,
You know, I might have hung the motor on your boat, but I'll say this. I must have hung and rigged a 1000 OMCs (Ocean Runners/Ocean Pros) at in my time at AS, but I can honestly say I've never taken those covers off to see what they are hiding, and just what the bolts behind them do.
I mean, to pull the LU off to change a water pump, hell, you never go near them...so maybe I'll take the covers off the Yammi tomorrow and see what the deal is... :?
-
I'll get a pic of the motor in the morn and post it ,but behind the plate is what looks like a
lag bolt encased in a rubber bushing, the bushing is the size of the cover plate.
Thanks for taking your time to help Bob i really appreciate it.

I'll see what's behind the cover plate on the Yammi...
Back in the the day in Sarasota, as you came into St. Armands from downtown, went halfway around the circle like you were going to Lido, there was a little restaurant calle "Tail O' the Pup"...served the best Hot Dogs you ever ate, and I'm from Chicago (Vienna Red Hots)...
Sometimes I actually miss Sarasota...go figure! :?

They are the mounts that hold the motor to the bracket that mount to your bolt they are on every motor and same as Bob I've looked at or dealt with them in my life either on any boat I've ever worked on. Sounds like to me you had either a seal issue or an electrolysis issue for those plates to corrode like that.
-
Like the saying goes, you don't miss it till it's gone.
-
yup :D

From what a found so far doing research it's not common.
And im sure it's not electrolysis

Your not kidding Bob I don't think I've ever seen a pair being sold by them self.

Good news i think,i went by my boat mechanic who i never see unless it's some thing i can't do,which isn't to often.
He said thats a fairly common prob on older motors,he told me $1oo per mount and labor i'll be at $3oo total i think i can live with that :D

Circle,
So I took one of your pics, copied it to my photobucket account, resized it, and this is what we have:
So it looks like the drive shaft "tube" is bolted to the mid-section, probably with some sort of rubber bushing inside the tube, at this point.
Nice pic here, as well:

My guy told me there's a shift rod or something like that, can't remember but when the mounts get real bad it twists like a pretzel.

Hi
What you have beneath the cover is a rubber mount which connects the motor to the steering arm.
It's made of rubber in order to avoid the transmission of screw vibrations to the boat.
If you need spare parts have a look to www.boats.net (http://www.boats.net).
