I own a 2002 200 Osprey and the anchor locker hatch is so small that a standard fluke style anchor wont fit through the hatch. Does anyone know why this is? And yes I use the proper size anchor for the boat. Thanks

So, assuming this is your anchor locker hatch, it looks as if it's about as big as it can be, given the size of the vertical face it's mounted on. If your using a 9 lb. Danforth-type anchor, it probably has a length of 24". I don't know how wide that hatch is, but I take it that is your issue...

I also have question have a anchor locker on my 215 explorer which is small and by keeping anchor in there what stops it from bouncing around and causin damage to the hull there is no place to secure it. Thinking about putting a bow pulpit or something to secure it. Any ideas? Thanks

cc150a - I don't use the hatch up front on my 170 for the same reason - no room. I keep the 2 anchors I carry in the forward stowage compartment (I only have one on the casting platform) along with fenders, etc. I do use the "anchor locker" for my bow line. You know one of the smartest things I've seen is the newer anchor lockers that have a "hanger" thing for the danforth type anchors and you drop them in from the top - very smart idea (wish I would have thought of that)
waterman - I would think that is your best alternative - a pulpit that the anchor sits in and a if you don't have one, a covered hawse pipe through to the rope locker. SB4 posted a link recently of aftermarket pulpits.

little confused on the wording in the reply. You do think the pulpit is the best alternative or no? And also what are those hangers youwere talking about is there any sites that show what they look like? And also what is a covered hawsepipe ? Thanks for the help

just went through some old posts I put up you put on some pics of your boats pulpit looks great I'm sure yours came with the boat but it looks bolted on do you know anyone who sells it aftermarket or where I could pick up a used one? Maybe seabob...any thoughts

I think one of the best alternatives to stowing the anchor in the locker is a set up as seen in the next 2 pics.

Note the roller, or what is called a "fairlead" on the bow. This allows the anchor to be snugged up, yet ready to deploy without having to dig it out from a spaghetti pile of rode.
The best way to stow that rode is with a hinged Deck Pipe:

When I was with AS, we got our's from Whitecap, that is what is shown here.
At Proline, we get our rollers from Kingston Anchors (http://www.kingstonanchors.com/), that model is the BR-16L, should work great for both a 200 Osprey and a 215 Explorer. You only need to replace the combined nav light with separates, as you can see in the first pic. We get the white ones from Attwood, which look pretty good.

The "hanger" thing I'm talking about is actually part of the cap mold or a hatch mold I think. I've seen them on some of the new boats at some boat shows. SB4, does proline have any models that use an integrated hanger that you hang a danforth type anchor on - opens like a deck hatch above the anchor locker and has a slot that you slide the rope/rode, chain and finally the anchor through and it hangs from the bar that the flukes are attached to, then you close the hatch? Know what I'm taking about? I tried to google on it but no results.

Great idea but may not be the answer to cc150's prayer.
CC could go with a smaller anchor, an aluminum breakdown (PIA when moving from spot to spot with distance in between) anchor chocks (though I think the bow area is too small) or possibly a bow rail hanger.

You still have the problem of the rode passing back into the locker and that answer lies with a deck pipe install that SB4 shows.
WM's best solution (but not the only one) would be the bow pulpit though he has enough room for deck mounted anchor chocks.

Rick, I know exactly what you are talking about, and I've seen them made from starboard. Personally, I would want to stow the anchor belowdecks if I didn't have a pulpit or roller. I would think my friends at Teak Isle would make one (they can do ANYTHING with starboard!) but I didn't see one on their site. I may just have to get a hold of my good friend over there and see if they do or not. I think, for in-locker storage, that's the way to go.
The boat pictured in my post is a Proline 20 Express, which has the same bow as our 20 Sport. I set up the founder of prolineowners.com, who has a 20 Sport, with the roller and the split bow lights to convert his boat over to the way waterman and cc150a are thinking about. Worked beautifully, the roller can be t/bolted from the locker, and it covers the existing hole from the old nav lgt. See if I can find a pic over there of the finished product.

Thanks guys you gave me some really good ideas. SeaBob your boat looks exactly like mine except my anchor locker hatch is smaller than the one pictured. I think what I might do is remove the hatch and use a roto zip and make the opening bigger, then either make a nice hatch out of teak or mohagany. Or have one custom made out of STARBOARD. You guys are awsome , thank you very much.

You figured it out! Congrats, and a beauty boat!
Now I see your problem with the anchor locker hatch...it just needs to be bigger! Now, if the flat is wide enough, I recommend the 13" X 30", as shown in this link.

I can get it for you for $70 shipped, if she'll fit. If that's to big, I can also get a 13" X 24" for $65.
That bigger hatch will solve your problems.

We did the same at Wellcraft back in '99 with the 32/35 Scarab Sports...it's a feature that "comes and goes"...
When I see that, I just kinda say, "Oh, look, someone else is trying it..."
Let a gypsy jam in snotty conditions, open the hatch, get on your hands and knees, bend way over, try and free it up, all the time taking cold spray over the bow...I'll take the traditional mount! :D
