Can someone advise me on the best way to take off and reinstall the cap on my 22-2 after reinforcing it. I'm concerned about losing the dimensions on the beam when removing it and the cap becoming stiff after reworking and everything not going back together correctly. Thanks for the help. :?

Give Tommy at Hammerhead Marine (http://www.hammerheadlivewell.com/) a call. He's got a mold for a 22'2" cap. Might be a good option for you.

Thanks for the reply Captain. I have a good cap, I'm just not sure how to keep everything lined up after taking it off. Looks to me from the other photos that everyone else just sat the cap on sawhorses and didn't worry about the sides flexing on the hull? Is it that simple to do or will I encounter problems on refitting after reconditioning the cap.

I had the same concern when I pulled my cap off. I clamped a 1" X 4" brace (http://www.classicaquasport.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/497/sort/1/cat/516/page/1) across the width about 2' forward of the transom. Seems to work good and the rest of the cap has a good 'memory'.

Thanks Seadog, think I will give that a try. I have viewed your pictures several times...very nice job you did on your boat.

Capt. Rick - Thanks for the kind words but my boat, the one with the brace on the cap, is nowhere near complete. It's a royal mess right now. Don't get my boat mixed up with the 'Calusa Wind'. The Calusa is not mine...

Sorry about that Seadog, saw the pictures under your name and just figured it was yours. If your interested maybe we can get together for a discussion some time since we live fairly close.

Capt. Rick - you have mail!

Your e-mail just came back and said it had 'fatal errors' so I guess it died. Give me a call at (352) 686-9913. I got cold beer at tha house!
