Title: Stringer refill
Post by: Capt. Rick on August 10, 2005, 11:15:47 AM
Just started a rebuild on 22-2 and turned to the internet for info and found Classic Aquasports.  Really nice to know their is a group willing to give advise and help.  My question concerns the stringers.  I opened the tops and cleaned them out after finding wet foam in them, just not sure what to go back in with.  If someone could help advise please. Capt Rick,

Welcome aboard!

I used Evercoat Foam-it Flotation. It is a two part high density foam kit. The stuff is not cheap!

Beware when mixing it since it takes about 20 seconds of mixing and it starts to foam like a volcano! The foam it produces is very sticky until it hardens and dries.

Start with small batches until you get the feel for it. If you put too much into a small enclosed area, Watch out!!!

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply.  I plan on using it if I don't come up with anything better.

I know some people leave them empty.  Can't get wet that way, and the foam provides little floatation or structure.

I did the similar thing and am wondering how to level the tops of the stringers now the new foam is in.  Thank you

You might look at how Shine did his - you probably want to use glass instead of carbon fiber, but the idea is the same:

Hope this helps!

Thank you Gone, I figured it out.  Look at the progress on the rebuilt page.
