Title: 2002 Mercury 2.5L 200hp Poppet Valve
Post by: CThomps on September 29, 2009, 11:05:08 AM
It's an offshore series motor.  Not sure if that matters.

Does anyone know the part number?

I've discovered something about engine parts online.  They're friggin cheap(er).  Local Merc dealer wanted $314 plus tax for a Mercury control box.  The internets found it for me for $242 delivered.  Installed it yesterday and what a difference a new control box and cables makes!  Idled like a champ and throttle forward very gracefully.

Thanks in advance.

Go to Mercury parts express, there should be diagrams and numbers for your motor. If you have not done so, do the thermostats and water pump as well. Just make sure you get the little rubber seal that goes on the thermostats. Be carefull of the top bolt on the poppet valve cover, they can be rather tight (corrosion wise).
