I dont know whether to feel honored or lonely, :( I look at all the pics and read all the forums and I have never seen another boat just like mine... Rick's 230 explorer :salut: is the closest I see on the site.
( I know the T-TOP gives her a different look ) but when I do a google search for 1986 XF, nothing ever comes up for the 246 or 250 (still not sure which mine is) and I dont see any in here that look like her.
I have even googled the 246/250 xf without putting in a model year, still dont find a whole lot.
I see lots of other AS models that are same age and even older that are all over the place..
It kinda makes me wonder.. Was there something wrong with this particular model and year that I should be aware of which makes them scarce?? ( have they all fallen apart or sunk??)
Or was the production just low on this particular boat??
I would love to think that I just have a rare jewel, maybe even one of a kind (with the T-TOP) but that is not my usual luck. If I have something unusual, it is normally because no one else WANTED it. :alien:
Any ideas or Input???
BTW we are still bouncing around Ideas for the name, but there are several that you guys have suggested that we absolutely LOVE, now it is just a matter of deciding which one we love the MOST.. I know we will have her named and the lettering in place in the next month or so..
-
You have an "Express Fisherman", commonly referred to as the XF - try a google on that. There are also "Family Fisherman", known as FF.
Look at your HIN stamped on the starboard back side of the transom. That should give you an idea of what size it is. Here's mine off the 230 and you can see the bottom line is the size.

Thanks for the info Rickk,
I need to look at my hull id again, I am pretty sure it is 24' 8". If I am not mistaken a 246 is 24' 6" and a 250 is 25'... So I am square in the middle, i guess that would make mine a 250.
What I had been googling most recently was just "aquasport boats" then looking at everything that came up under that broad search for express fishermen, Compared to all the other Aquasport models there just weren't that many XF's listed, and I had not seen any '86's
( I wasnt googling "XF" I just used that abbreviation here) :salut: But after your suggestion I refined the search to "aquasport express fisherman" I found a few with the more refined search, But as I said earlier, there just dont seem to be as many in the XF line as some of the other models. Some of the ones I did find were in the '86 to "88 model years They seem to be holding thier own pretty well, and the value seems to be about the same as when I bought mine. That is one of the reasons I was looking for them, Just to see how much they were going for, I paid $9, 000 for mine 4 years ago and of the ones I did find most of them still seem to be going for around $10,000 now. So either I got a FANTASTIC deal back then or they have really held thier value over the past several years.
But the question still remains, (and maybe no one knows) Why are there so few of the older XF's around compared to some of the other AS models? Even in this site, we see tons of other models but I dont think I have seen anyone other than myself with the older XF model. I thought maybe my headline "where are all the 246/250 xf's" might get the attention of someone on the site that does have one that I just had not seen or noticed before. It is just a curiosity..
-
There are probably plenty out there but I'll tell ya most people don't have a clue what they're boating in, it's just a boat to them. At our gatherings we see tons of Aquasports going by and only rarely do the 5 - 9 Aquasports grouped together on the beach or tied up in a raft even get a 2nd look from the people piloting their Aquasports by, let alone a wave. I went around my neighborhood trying to drum up participation in our gatherings and left flyers on all the front doors where I saw Aquasports (and there were quite a few) - never saw one of them. Maybe it's me.....
-
NAW Rickk, couldn't be you...
I know what you mean though, I see other aqua's out there on the water.. and I just want to yell and scream "Hey aqua head!! We both have the same make of boat woooo hooo" but they dont seem to be interested in coversation.. oh well, I guess that is why we have this site... we all have each other.... Hey when I refined my search I found a few Express fisherman out there that were kind of low priced.. DBryan says he is thinking about looking for a cuddy cabin so I sent him the links,, maybe I will have another XF buddy on the site after all..
-
I would love to think that I just have a rare jewel,
You do, she's special, unique. I'm sure one day you'll come accross another one just like yours, and who knows!
Marc..
-
hey everybody, i'm new to the forum also, i been reading the post on here for a while...
i too have one of the rare express fisherman 250's, i been trying to find as much info as i can... and this is about the only place in can find any. i've had the boat for about year and a half still havent figured everything out on it also. the boat is in great shape but the winter i'm gonna give it a face lift and restore it, gonna redo the transom while i have it taken apart and repaint the boat . lynnstrick where did u find a hatch cover in the cabin??? this winter when i restore it i was plan on adding a second bilge pump instead of just the one in back, i didnt know there was another already and have u figured out how to turn the sink yet, and i'm trying to figure how i can rig up a baitwell on the boat somewhere... any suggestion would be greatly appreicated
-
Hookdup:
Welcome!!! :salut: i am so glad to see someone else with same boat coming on board,
I was lonely. Sorry I was out of touch yesterday I am on here most everyday, I am addicted to this site..
In answer to your question, I may have misspoke when I called it an "access" hatch,, i think the proper wording is "inspection plate" I tried to take some pics but my camera is doing some strange stuff.
When you enter the cabin there is a little round pvc or maybe hard plastic, "cap" looking thing pretty much in the middle of the floor, It is a pain in the neck to get open but with pliars and patience it wll open, one of the bilge pumps is in there, according to Rickk, this is the FORE pump. I think the one in the aft is under the same type inspection plate but in the back near the transom, I havn't gotten to that one yet.
For the sink: You will notice it is not a normal, faucet type knob, it is more of a "lever"you have to pump it kind of like the old well pumps. If you have water in your holding tank it should pump up.
Baitwell,,, You should have one, Starboard side, back by the transom, mine uses the "washdown" button on the console to fill it and keep the water circulating, not sure if that is how they all are or if sombody before me just wired it that way.
I will keep working on pic's... send us some pics of your boat too,, it is pretty simple go to photobucket.com, register, download your pics, size them then post the link on here and your pics will appear.. wah lah.. for more detailed instructions see the "rebuild" forum post #2 "how to post pictures"
-
when i get home i will look for the access panel in the cabin, i know the aft pump is under the port hole in by the transom, my boat doesnt have a baitwell on it , i have 2 fishboxes but the rear compartments u are talking about on my boat are more storage compartments, one has my batteries and washdown pump in one, and the other has the oil tank for my engine (2-stroke), and the pump for my trim tabs, but i will put some water in the holding tank try to pump it and see what happens,
-
thanks for all the info i'm sure i will have alot of questions
-
Welcome aboard HookdUp1 :!: :!:
Yup, Lynn is learning pretty fast
-
thanks Rick... i just looked all through my cabin i guess my boat doesnt have a second bilge... i will definately be adding one just to make me feel a lil better at least
-
Typically it was in the floor of the cabin. They put a round access panel in the floor - very visible. What year is she? Hard to believe they didn't put a pump up front in a boat that big. Learn something new every day. Nothing on the dash that would make you think there is another pump somewhere?
-
the boat is an 87 model, yea i know u would think a boat the big would have 2 pumps, i only have 1 bilge switch on the console other than the lighting switches all i have is: bilge, bower, washdown, wiper, and acc switch that i have yet to figure what it works, i will try to get some pics post later today or tomarrow sometime, of the boat
-
I think I have an ACC sw too and it went to the horn. I turned it on the first time and a I heard some muffled noise and a bunch of rust fell out of the horn onto the walk-around - damn things are always a pain and never work. I think they haven't figured out how to make a marinized horn yet. Even the air horns fail on the water...
-

Is the bilge switch a double throw?
On my 84 it is and runs the rear pump and the live well (because I wired it that way).
So it's on when pushed in at the top, off in the middle and on again when fully depressed on the bottom. I'm assuming you have a "rocker type" switch.

Hey I just purchased a 1983 246 xf over the winter. I just repowered it with a suzuki df300 and also did a few other upgrades. The plan is to completely restore it although the hull is in pretty darn good shape so moslty cosmetics. Only ran her for a couple of hours yet but so far I love it. Before this boat I owned a mako 258 cuddy and as good as the mako rode so far the aquasport handles better. I tried to post some pics but couldnt figure it out maybe I'll give it another try. Anyway i know it's not the same exact year model but they may be very similar.
-
Let's see if this works. These were before I did any work to the boat.

Nice XF! :salut:
-
nice boat bassmonkey how much of a difference could u tell from the 225 to the 300??? i have a 200 on my 250xf, and it will run about 38mph but i dont have a hardtop (yet).... this winter in i want to restore it after fishing season... if you have any idea about hooking up a permanent livewell on there somehow let me
-
Thanks. As far as the 300 hp Im not sure yet still breaking it in and waiting for the right prop, the prop was way off. It did hit 41 mph briefly and that was with the prop beeing way off so It should see alot higher. I know the 250 hp would have been fine for me I just happened to find a better deal on the 300. As far as the bait well Im basicly going to make one in one of the storage boxes I'll let you know when I plumb it.

Looks good - that's a BIG motor.
You have the new type of trim tabs too 8)
-
COOOOOOOL :salut:
Welcome Bass Monkey!!! I am so glad I started this thread, I feel like I am getting my own little family started here... sniff sniff,,, :smurfin: It makes a mama proud.
Love the '83.. bassmonkey,,, That 300 should do very well for you. With right prop, and a glassy day I got 42mph out of mine with the 250 yamaha, that was more than enough speed for me.. we have had a little trouble with trim tabs, the hubby says if we ever get them "perfect" we should hit 45 or better.
Hook'd... still waiting for your pics... c'mon its not that hard....
-
I'm sorry i havent been able to check recent post or load pics of my boat, my computer at home is messed up so i have been able to get on line, i'm work right now.... i'm actually debating on saleing my boat and maybe getting a center console

Man... that's a tough one. I LOVE my C/C, but I also LOVE W/A's. I've actually been debating whether or not I should buy a WA. The best way to go is to have both. I'm trying to talk a good buddy of mine into getting an 03' Key West W/A from pops and promising my help with it so I can kind of have both to use.
If only money grew on trees...
-
don't get me wrong i love my boat... the cabin is really nice on the over night fishing trips, and just to get out of the weather.... i just wish i had more deck space

got any close up photo's of your gal ?

Hello all! I've been lurking on this website for a month or so, and after finding a little info. about the 246XF we decided to go with it and purchase one that was for sale locally. We have a lot of work on our hands but I believe this site should help tremendously with everyone's knowledge on here. So far all we have been able to do is clean her out and empty all of the garbage out of there. Tomorrow she will get a good scrubbing. We know for sure that it needs to be repowered-were torn between going with doubles or just one big single. Bassmonkey-How did your boat perform with the yammy on it? We also plan on painting it, as you can see in the pics, it desperately needs some fresh paint. And we are gonna go from there. Any input on potential issues or concerns would be greatly appreciated. Here are the pics before cleaning.

PO sure liked blue.
Welcome aboard.
The floating condo group is spreading its wings. We got some nice ones for you to join up with too.
Keep postin' those pics :thumright:

Thanks for the greeting cap! And you are right about the PO liking blue, the inside of the cabin is just as hideous! Every major upgrade I make- pics will follow. Here is a shot of the cabin.

If I haven't already done so, let me welcome you aboard flushot :!: :!:

That's a hell of a lotta boat. :thumleft:

The PO must have either been a big fan of America or Superman. :) Nice Boat! I see a W/A in my future...
-
"Oh say can you see..."
She has a nice cabin, with a bit of room. Teak and white is what she needs. There are flagpoles everywhere...
Enjoy her, and go for twin 200s, at least, maybe 225/250s. Suzuki is my brand du jour.
Bob C
-
Yeah, I'm def. gonna go with natural teak color and re-upolhster carpet and cushions. Twin 200's would be nice. Anybody have pics of there interior cabins and what they did w/ there's?
-
I think Max HP (check the plate) on your 246XF is 280. I would be careful going above twin 150s on this boat if you want to get her insured....
Twin 140 Zukis would be sweet and match the nameplate HP on the money!

Hello BassMonkey:
I'm new to world of Aquasport having recently purchased a 1987 250 Express Fisherman (see pics on Aquasport Discussion - "1987 250 Express Fisherman"). Mine is powered by an Evinrude 225 of the same year as the boat and I know that I will eventually have to re-power her. The 300 Suzuki installed on your boat looks great! How does she perform? What is the fuel burn? What prop are you using? You mentioned that you got a good deal. Who was your source for the motor and installation? Any other information you can offer will be appreciated. Thanks.
Regards,
Duffel
-
HOLY COW! The PO must have found a special on blue paint and whorehouse red velvet! Hopefully that's the only crazy thing he did to it! I just found THREE holes in my transom UNDER the water line vinyl stripe! Talk about a LAZY PO!
-
I've been a lurker for some time but now I'm hooked. I have an 83 246 obxf with a 2003 225 optimax. I have replaced much of the wiring in between seasons. I think next year it will remain out of the water for some paint and other repairs. Love the boat except for the notched transome, but that is starting to flex a little and will need to be done soon. I like all the info the site has t offer and will get pics of my boat up soon.
-
Welcome aboard aquajoe :!: :!:
-
thanks, and gf you are correct, the plate lists the max hp at 280
-
here's a ggod one, my helm has a switch for a forward bilge pump but there is no pump, no access port, and no wires to the switch. want to add one but can't see where the discharge hose would go. I was gonna have it discharge where the ice box drain is but it looks like the stringer is in the way. I removed the ice box and replaced it with a tackle holder, 4 drawer planos. worked great, will post pics when I find them.
-
Where the heck is Lynn? She has abandoned her step-family :?
-
The forward pump was an option, but all the panels got the switch. So instead of the "Bridge to Nowhere," you have the "Switch to Nothing."
You want a bilge pump discharge to be fairly high, and usually sink and cooler outlets are too close to the water line for a bilge pump. I think when the factory installed the front pump, they cut through the stringer to run the hose, then up between the liner and the hull. You probably have foam in that area, which complicates the situation more... :x
I see 2 options:
1. Run the outlet hose forward to the bow area and have the outlet near the nose of the boat.
2. Run the hose back toward the stern and put the outlet near the transom. Bad news there is a very long bilge hose run - not a good practice.
Hope this helps - see ya on the water!
-
thanks GF, will be something to work on once I pull her out of the water, hopefully not for a few more weeks, were crushing the stripers and big gator bluefish right now.
-
Hi
There's one 250 XF more.
As I see in this forum this is a relatively rare boat, so perhaps it's the only one in Spain or in Europe.
I bought it 6 years ago, I like it, the only trouble I had were some issues with the motor.
Now I'm nearly an Evinrude specialist.
As I want to navigate and not to work as mechanician last week I changed the old thirsty Evinrude 155 for a Suzuki 225.
Wow what a difference !! Faster (from 30 to 41 mph), quieter, and I think less than half of fuelconsumption.
Here some photos:

Welcome to the site SK! Nice looking XF - and it's great to hear from another European Aquasport owner. :salut:
I think you will like the Zuki 225 - everyone I know who has one has been very happy.
-
Welcome aboard resyak :!: :!:
Nice big boat. :thumleft: We have a few members in Italy but I don't remember anyone from Spain 8)
-
OK you XF'ers. I've got one too (250). Currently getting an enclosure on it, when it is done I will get some photos out. Interesting to see other ones like it with the suttle differences, in particular, the beautiful blue paint (lol).

The enclosure is done, check it out. More photos to come.

Here's a thought - now that you see how it fits and looks, take the front panel back to him and ask him to put a zippered "U" in it so you can install the panel and then unzip it - you'll love it and wonder why he didn't do it in the first place. If it is even a bit rough out I install the helm glass on 3 sides, then roll up the sides and unzip the flap in the front (it lays inward) - now I'm ready for the worse. It's super to be able to quickly zip up the front panel if the spray starts coming over the front.
You can see the front panel in this pic:

Reeldrag,
Rick is absolutely correct. That way, to get airflow over the windshield, you don't need to remove the connector, just unzip it...
While you're at it, have them install straps and snaps so you can roll it up and secure it...Sorry Rick, just don't like it "laying there"...

The unzipped panel is not as long as the windshield is high, so it hangs there out of the way.

Good ideas, he still has the boat. Will do.
Thanks

Hey everybody,
I am new to this site and last year was my first year boating. I ended up getting a 25 foot family fisherman walkaround for free. The best part was that the motor only had 20 hours on it. Toward the end of the first season we got a bad storm and I ended up getting a hole punched into the side about 18 inches above the water line. My dad and I reglassed it and it ended up turning into a full restoration.
We used all Interlux paint and painted the hull gray and the top white. I am currently flush mounting all my electronics into my electric box that I will hang on the hard top and then turn my attention to the helm that I bought all new gauges and rocker switches for.
I truly think this will be my first and last boat. This thing go's through the water like a tank I LOVE IT. I have yet to see another 1987 25ft Aquasport XF with an IO. Mine is powered with a 5.0 Merccruiser.
I was trying to post pictures but for some weird reason it wont allow me.
O yeah I named her "Big Pappa :bigsmurf: Smurf"

Hi
Welcome to the 250 family Newbie25 !!
Congratulations you own a great boat.
I'm courious about your photos.
Perhaps you can give me some hints about the painting, I just bought International Perfection for painting the deck which has some surface cracks. Later I'd like to paint the rest of the boat. How much solvent do you have to add to the paint and how much paint will i need for the boat.
Which tricks do I need for getting a good surface ?
Regards and enjoy your boat.

Stephen,
For the service cracks on my deck and throughout the topside I used resin to fill them and sanded if smooth. For big gauges I used marine body-filler that has fiberglass strands in it. I also used Interlux Brightside for the top of the boat because you do not have to mix it with a hardener and I got great results (more pics will be posted). I did use Interlux Perfection on the hull with the brush and tip method and it came out GREAT. With great prep work both paints are very good. I forget the exact mixture ratio I had my friend help with the spraying of the topside because he is a good painter. I rolled the floor with Interdeck by Interlux. I used 1 gallon and 1 quart for the topside of the boat and 4 containers of the perfection for the hull. I also used 1 gallon of the recommended primer for the Perfection paint.
Make sure after you prime the boat you sand it because it will dry with a eggshell finish!!
If you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask.

Does anybody know were to get literature about my 1987 250 XF?
Also does anybody have a rough estimate/guess how much a full canvas enclosure would cost for my boat?
Thanks-A-Million
-
Looking good :thumright: Cabin looks new still.
We have some literature on this model in our photo gallery http://www.classicaquasport.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/2866/sort/1/cat/574/page/1.
When you scale your pictures, you can scale them to 640x480 or even 800x600 and then follow the steps you did to get the pix in your posts. The ones you have now don't do your hard work justice.
