Title: Inspection ports?? Where do I find them?
Post by: Fishhyren11 on April 29, 2008, 10:57:03 AM
I have a few of the little screw down and push down inspection hole covers that are starting to age.
Where do I find replacement ports?
Also, on my 170, I have a mistery hole on the front right inside the boat (around the area where the gas fill is)- anyone know what this one is for?

Thanks for your help!

Boaters World, West Marine, any marine supply.

As for the mystery hole, maybe a picture would help.

Yes, we carry the Beckson line @ Boater's World.

Since your post is about inspection ports, I assume this is the "hole"you are talking about. On my CCP the "hole" in that area is for access to the fuel filler hose. :?

I can see the filler hose, so I'm guessing that's right, just didn't know if there was any other reason besides that....

I also have one in the front right hatch which seems to give access to a drain plug under the front hatch that goes to the side of the hull?

I wish I knew the features this boat came with so I could restore those-
Was it a powered livewell, etc? or is this just to drain ice or whatever I might put in there?

Thanks!!

Fishy,
The 170 experts will soon descend upon you so I'll leave you with this. On my 86 /170 there was a "fishbox/cooler" in the middle foward hatch. IIRC it drained overboard but.... :?
I let the experts (with current memories) fill in the rest.
Good luck.

PS..... Check the resource forum here. It has a wealth of info and pretty pics too.

Mistery hole:  Acces to fuel fill and vent hose.
Hole in front right hatch:  I have the same, but my hand can only reach a couple of inches inside before striking a bunch of foam (probably insulation for the center hatch which is a fishbox with a drain).  This center fishbox is not really too good in maintaining ice, as the hatch istelf is not insulated.

Logically, the holes were put there so that if you ever needed to replace an aging or broken fuel fill hose/drain hose or tighten a loose cable clamp, your job wouldnt be mission impossible. Its always a smart idea to have ready access to any kind of thru-hull fitting or hole in the hull if god forbid they ever came loose or sprung a leak, you would be able to patch them easier
