I lost my anchor, during my last fishing trip. My 33 lbs fluke was doing great, especially in rough sea, but too heavy to carry & too large to store.
Anyway, I would like to buy a new anchor for my 17', before weekend. When I checked Doha marine shops, the salesmen suggested #8 fluke for 17'-24' boats, but I was confused between #13 (14 lbs) & #8 (9 lbs). I also found a 15.5 lbs CQR, but I never tried this model before. <!-- s:? -->:?<!-- s:? -->
What do you suggest, weight & design wise?

I would say a Danforth type in the 9LB range would be fine. I'd add about 6-10ft of chain at the anchor and that should do you.

BTW Bahi, I have a Danforth twice as big as you need I'm not using right now that I could sell you. Want me to throw it in my check-in bag? <!-- s:lol: --><!-- s:lol: -->

My suggestion would be a Danforth type anchor of 8-9 lbs. with 4-6 feet of heavy chain and 3/8" nylon rode. Something like this:

Hope this helps - see ya on the water!

this is what I use for my 19 6 an it's great. Even in rough seas it holds firm.

Bahi, when ever I use those a quick link between the chain and anchor I use a piece of stainless wire to tie the bolt in place. I don't know exactly how but that link will come loose at the worst time. The tie wire is just a little extra insurance.

Expensive bag :!:
I agree with MD that you need to lock that clevis pin in with something- wire or a couple of small zip ties even.

I have a similar setup, 9lb fluke with 10feet galvanized chain. Works real good. I use double the chain length in case I have to put out more scope due to swell, I find the anchor resets much quicker in rough water. And like the other guys said make sure you put some wire through that shacle. I use the stainless leader they sell for fishing, its easier to wrap a few times. Make sure to have some sort of wrap for around the lead if you get stuck in some bad weather. I use a peice of foam pipe insulator that I duck tape in place in case I have to wait out a storm. Don't want that lead to chaf from the rubrail.
My back up is from my old sailboat a thirty pound fortress I keep in the dockbox with 15feet of half inch galzanized, only take out for long trips up the hudson or through the D&R to virginia.
