Title: 2001 AS steering

I have a 01 As tournament cat.The dealer told me that it would handle
different than other boats but its like steering a car with no power steering and the wheel has about 1/4 play in it.
Is there something wrong with the steering or is this just how the boat will steer?

Does it have hydraulic steering?  If so, it should not be super still like that.

Loose cable most likely - if you've got hydraulic steering - it could be air in the system...   Good luck!
