Why have we seen so much interest in restoring classic center consoles like the 222 Aquasport over the past 5 to 10 years? With the number of bay boat builders increasing by the day, why are we drawn to pouring our blood, sweat, tears, and valuable time (not to mention significant cash) into rebuilds?
Is it an emotional attachment to these boats? For me it is. Our 222 is the only boat I've ever known. My father purchased it new in 1976 with twin Evinrude 70's. Is it the challenge and satisfaction of doing it yourself?

I've got a '74 Wellcraft V20 Cuddy, but a good friend recently got a late 80s Aquasport(was there a 21' cc) w/a 175 Yammer...he and his wife just got a place on Lake Murray in SC and are really enjoying this boat :D ...
The new vs old for me is is partly I like workin' w/boats, but largely dissapointment in the direction new boat designs have gone...mainly this insane Euro-design transom  ...wasted space for me...great way to get 20' of useable space and pay for a 22' boat...some of these designs look like you're as much as 3-4' from the back of the boat :!: ...
Anyway, thanks for the site...I'l be lookin' in from time to time and I've already passed along the site info to my friend...

Welcome!
Thanks for passing our site along. We are new and can use all the help we can get.
As for recbuilding I think is is one of the only ways to really get what you want. I agree with you, there are very few new designs that are appealing to me. 95% of the mass produced boats are terrible, you have to buy a 28' to get the fishing room of a 20' IMO. The only way to get close to a fishable boat is one of the semi-customs, and the price is somewhat prohibitive.
Keep checking back!

Good luck w/your new forum...sure you'll do well as there are so many happy Aquasport owners out there...I found you on The Hull Truth forum...Wiley probly won't mind if you drop in from time to time...
Love the lines on the Aquasport...saw one recently...21 or 22 footer w/cuddy...PURDY BOAT 8) ...I nearly bought it from the guy right there on the water...if my wife hadn't been there, I probly woulda...

On THT? Did someone else post a link on there? That's great! We hadn't made it that far yet. We were waiting for the front page to be ready, but we are happy to hear from people sooner.
Actually, I am usually over on classicmako.com (http://www.classicmako.com). I own a '75 23 Mako (http://www.classicmako.com/projects/ayala/) that I am in the process of rebuilding.
Captain has an old 222 (can't remember the year) that may be next.
Reel - Where are you located?

I'm in Spartanburg SC...Yeah, saw you on THT...great place to post new forum :D , but boy does that thing move FAST!
My buddy w/an Aquasport says it's a 19 1/2'...CC w/that 175 Yam...goes good and rides like a dream...he has you bookmarked, so he'll show up soon...
Good luck...

Thanks. We'll look for him.

THT posting <=== Guilty as charged. I was hoping some folks would see that and, come over. It would be really great if someone, other than me since I posted it, would go over there and, make a comment so it would get kicked back to the top of the pile.

Got no problem doing that. What is the name of the thread?
We were going to start that when the front page was ready. Soon, hopefully.
Thanks for helping out!!

I owned a 1975 Aquasport 240 with a 233 Mercruiser, it is one of my favorite boats that I have owned. If I could find it to buy back and restore I would. Right now I am restoring a 1977 Chris Craft Cutlass center console. Let see some pictures of the older Aquasports

Those are tough to find. I remember looking around for one of those, but I knew I would have to do work on it. They all had split consoles, didn't they? Remisicent of the old 24' proline, another classic.
