I won a new Yamaha motor thru CCA. My 222 Osprey has a 2002 Merc Optimax 200hp with about 800hrs. I was thinking of going with a 200hp HPDI instead of the 4-stroke because of weight. My boat is a little heavy anyway because I have a jack plate and dual station tower. I'm waiting on quotes for re-rigging. Any ideas out there on repowering to Yamaha? Issues or problems I should worry about?

You will need new instruments and switches - Yammies won't work with Merc electronics. Control cables should be fine. If you have SeaStar steering, you can turn the cylinder upside down and it will work on a Yammie :wink: :wink:
How much weight difference is there? I would not worry if it's under 100 - the oil tank weighs about 30 lbs full, and you won't need that... Just put the extra beer up front instead of the back... :lol:

The Yamaha 200hp HPDI weighs 475lbs and the 200hp & 225hp 4-Strokes both weigh 583lbs. I'm worried about the extra weight on the transom more than the actual total weight of the boat. It is an older boat and the transom is still the old open style. I've been told that rigging a Yamaha with dual controls gets kinda expensive because Yamaha uses a special module box so that both upper and lower stations feed into it and from there it goes to the motor. Is that true?

I think I saw that Yamaha box somewhere online for, get this, nearly $4K. I have a friend that had dual stations added to his Pathfinder w/150 vmax and the total with labor was over $6k. The only cheap choice I know of is to use dual lever controls.

If he's got a tower on it he probably has the dual lever morse controls or you could go electronic controls.

Yes, I do have dual lever controls already. I'm hoping that they will still work with the new Yamaha motor. I'm glad for new gauges anyway, some didn't work all that well. I am doing a basic floor/stringer resotoration. Repairing and reinforcing, not tear-out and rebuild. Transom in good shape not going there. Also taking out the gas tank and and probably reinstall it 2-3 foot more forward for better weight transfer. Made decision to go with a 4 stroke. The 200 or 225 both weigh the same. Should I just go with the 225 hp 4 stroke?
