Hi guys, I will need to repower my boat next month. I would like to put a new 115 HP. However, dealers here (Aruba) are not the most thrust worthy people. There are two dealers, that represent 3 brands (Mercury & Evinrude in one shop and Yamaha in the other) The problem is that only they have analizing computers for these brands, you can't just take your boat elsewhere (they will charge you a fortune to trouble shoot). The Evinrude dealer is trying to push the 90 Etec, but would that be enough HP? The Yamaha dealer can get me a good deal on a F100 four stroke (carburated model, simpler and less likely to have a problem with bad quality gas than the fuel injected models), the F115 would be much more expensive. The price of the 90 Etec and the F100 is about the same. When I visited the Miami boatshow one of the Aquasport guys told me the F100 would be fine on my boat. I will use the boat mainly for fishing, diving, and general cruising, I don't need top end speed as long as the boat can plane easy. Any suggestions welcome. :D
Oh by the way fuel efficiency is important since gas is twice the US price here, $4 US per GL.

WHat are you replacing? Back in the early days of aquasport, high horse engines were unheard of. I remember several boats that ran like the wind with a pair if 55 hp motors. I would like to think that either motor would put a 19 6 on a plane. Take a look at shaft torque and shaft rpm. you might have to experiment with a few different props before you get what you want. Also trim tabs will add a lot to both performance and stability of the boat. Good luck.

I am not sure but I think my boat had 2 Yamaha 55's in it's early days. I am wondering what other readers have on their boats. On ads in boattrader I have seen everything from 88 HP to 200 HP, rather big difference!

I have a 150 hp Johnson on my 87 200 Osprey (same thing as 196). It's plenty.

I don't know all the true info on the Etec's yet being there still pretty new but I do think Evinrude is really onto something. Yamaha will always be hard to bet in cost, performence and customer support on warranty items. I use to be a Dealer of all three and Yamaha was great to work with. I wouldn't worry about the analizing equipment being that 9 out of 10 times when there is a problem they never pick it up. If your in Aruba, I would look at which dealer you feel better with and which warranty is better. I would also and always go for more Hp and with your cost of fuel, lean torwards the four stroke (sure your oil isn't cheap either). If you could find a way, I would go with the F115, it has a lot of torque and will not have to work as hard and probable will get better fuel milage.

Like Scott, I have a 150 on my 19'6". It's perfect. But, mine had trim tabs (and a jackplate that puts it a little further back) when I bought it so I can't say how it would run without them. Even with a t-top, my boat flies with the 150.

I just purchased a 19'6" that didn't have a motor. Luckly I have a 115 Evnirude at home to put on it. I was wondering is that enough motor or should I look for more. The previous owner had a 200 Johnson on it. But it didn't run right. I'm hoping the 115 is enough. Any suggestions

115 should be plenty.
