Title: OEM console too low for leaning post on 22-2????
Post by: Undertow2 on September 24, 2007, 12:28:00 PM
On my 22-2 restore it has been my intention to stick with the OEM console to try and stay as classic as possible.  But, a friend of mine reminded me the other day that 22-2's were designed with a cooler seat?  I am looking at the Dorado style baitwell/lean post thing but will I have to strain my back to effect the throttle and steering wheel because the original console sits too low?  Whaddya think?  Anyone have any first hand advice?  Anyone ever see a good method of raising the OEM console?
My buddy's 22 Ranger Bay has a baitwell that sits on a riser, could I do that with the console?  Should I even consider it?

I don't know your year boat buy my '78 22-2 CCP the console is high and a leaning post worked just fine.  Maybe the difference is the CCP part?

Maybe try this:

Look toward the bottom of the page.

JJ- your CCP console is much higher than the low deadrise 222s (FBs and Ospreys).

That's what I figured.  I have a good bit more freeboard too.

Maybe check out the surplus yards for an old CCP console?

Don's Salvage in Largo has a few old beat up consoles.

Marine Surplus in Sarasota/Bradenton has a good supply of new consoles from tiny to huge.

Thanks guys.  Payment in the form of Ribs and Steaks @ the get together for all the blatant questioning, swear it.  8)

Have to meet with Will Thursday for some modifications to the original design layout.  Am 86'ing port and starboard swim platforms due to fishability issues (will just get bracket ladder), swapping that out for trim tabs.  They'll be needed, was gonna wait but nah, gotta have em.  Also the console height issue will need to be discussed.  This will be a challenging conversation I am sure, still have a budget to stick to.  :?

I would try a few of the "good" surplus places.  When I was down in Ft Pierce they had some CC there for ~$500.  You just missed Captjfran's (Jim) Pathfinder console... I think he sold it to Wiler with the boat.

Where did that console come from Jim?

I have been to the Surplus in Sarasota too... I *think* they may have had a console or two.

Just depends on supply.  Sometimes they have 3 or 4, sometimes a dozen or more.  From $150 - $500 or so.  Scratch and dent are usually $100 or so cheaper.

Hopefully I will have the time tomorrow to check a few of the local Tampa area surplus yards tomorrow prior to driving to Will's shop.  That way we can figure this out on the fly.

Jim PM'd me back and he did sell the console to wiler.  He says to check with Stem to Stern.  Guess I'll do that, too.
