Title: CQR anchor
Post by: gcapehart on April 16, 2007, 09:27:15 AM
We got a steal on a 20 # CQR plow type anchor. Here in Maine we have all kinds of bottoms. We also have the old Danforth. Our boat is a 1982 25XT with a 225 Johnson. We would like to moore with it some nights along the coast. What is your idea of a really good anchor. We have rocks, gravel, mud, sand, and combinations galore. Thanks, Gary

I have a knock off of a CQR and it holds in sand and mud great.  Haven't run into anything else yet.
Title: Danforth vs. CQR
Post by: GoneFission on April 16, 2007, 06:18:33 PM
Everyone has their preferences regarding anchors, but I used to carry both a Danforth and a CQR.  Now I carry 2 Danforths.  I found the Danforth worked when the CQR would not, but not vice-versa.

CQRs do seem to retract better into some anchor pulpits.  A friend of mine uses a CQR just for that reason.  Again, it's a matter of preference, or as they say "you pays your money and you makes your choices."

The Danforth is still onboard. I'll have two.
