Title: fuel tank question?
Post by: aqua70 on April 11, 2007, 11:40:49 PM
Picked up an 18 gal. Tempo fuel tank on the internet. The BOating Channel.com.  Saved about 70 dollars as compared to local prices here in south Jersey.
We are mounting the tank under the center console. The fill plate will be on the starboard side. We purchased a curved fill hose to accomodate the angle. I know JimCt had a concern earlier about this.
I have a question about the FUEL VENT>>> What is the proper positioning or rule of thumb concerning it. Can it be placed too close to the fill? Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks

I don't like the vent near the fill because sooner or later you end up with a shoe full of gasoline.  Optimium is outside the hull.  If the tank is below decks, I would run the vent line to the outside for safety.  There are too many non-spark protected devices/wiring around the console.  Fumes are heavy and will settle in the boat while filling.
