Title: Help! Transom Livewell
Post by: fnichols on February 16, 2007, 09:24:19 AM: I have another forum member who just purchased a 17' boat with the transom livewell mounted off the back. Please tell me the exact name of these boxes and help me find photos of other members that use these as a baitwell. I am looking for pictures of these boxes wired with livewell pumps. I told him that he should use those boxes instead of using up space and installing a large well in the back of the boat. If I can find the pictures on the forum then I figured that it might make things easier to plan the installation.

Post by: John Jones on February 16, 2007, 10:30:49 AM: My 22-2 originally had the transom mounted baitwells. They had a bronze scoop facing forward that forced water into them when running.

I think the boxes will work with just a scoop, but the whitebait in the gulf might die without a freshwater circulaltion when he anchors. Do you keep greenbacks and threadfins in the wells all day with success.

Post by: Deck Daddy on February 16, 2007, 05:26:31 PM: My 17 had those boxes on the stern. I just had a scoop with a inline valve. Close to the top of the boxes were a series of 1/2" holes to let the excess out. You could mount a pump on the inline valve to keep constant water flow. The boxes on mine were from the factory, they were an option.

Post by: g-man on June 09, 2007, 09:53:38 AM: I have a 22-2 with baitwell extensions. They had no scoops ,but the bottom holes were drilled angling slightly forward. If you gave a load of pogies a ten minute ride they would become predators. The pain was leaning over the back to extract the bait. When I switched the twin 70s for twin 115s the extra weight needed some help so I glassed the holes and foamed the baitwells. That brought her back to where she was and the ocean thinks she's a 23-2.

Post by: mike young on August 15, 2007, 08:03:05 AM: My 170 has transom mounted live wells I think were factory installed, I love them we fish with live shrimp and mud minnows and never have any bait die even in the 85 to 92 degree surface temps we have had this summer. No pumps no noise. I have a smaller boat not a aquasport that I am going to try to build some for.
