Getting ready to repower my 1999 215DC. Pretty sure I’m going with a Suzuki 200. Current motor is a 1999 Johnson 200. Couple of questions below - all input is welcome.
- Often idle in and out of shallow waters. Any suggestions on a Jack plate? Brand, setback, etc?
- Looking to add trim tabs. Electric vs. hydraulic? What size?
Thanks
Trey

I did that exact motor swap…. No idea about a Jack plate etc….
-
Plugger - what’s your top speed and what prop are you running?
-
Not a WOT guy but I’ve touched 40 mph and in a twenty footer that’s plenty
Have had a 3/16/20 and a 3/16/18.5 both Suzuki props not much difference.

Thanks for the info!

Update: installed a 2024 Suzuki 200A and a 6” Bobs Jackplate. I think it’s a perfect match. Top speed with a 21 pitch is 46 mph. Planes good without trim tabs but might be an add on in the future. Very happy I went with the Jackplate. Helps with the trim but also opens the motor well space for rod holders. Let me know if you have any questions.

Looks good and should be a perfect match for your boat. Is the jackplate electric?
-
Rick - it’s the self contained hydraulic version. I don’t have any experience with other Jackplates but IMO it’s quick and seems robust.

Looks great, I really like how it opens up the motor well.

Trey,
Looking at a purchasing the same boat for my Son and possibly re powering it with the Zuke 200 also. Do you think it would of had enough engine well clearance without the Jack Plate when fully raised?
Also without the plate, do you think the entire engine of been out of the water when raised.
Are you happy with the power of the 200 on that boat?
I re powered my 225 Explorer 3 years ago with the Zuke 250 and love it. Thanks for your time!

Hi Dave,
I think you could tilt all the way without the Jackplate. However, even with the Jackplate, the foot is not out of the water. I’m very pleased with the 200!

Thanks for the quick reply! My 225 Explorer does the same thing raised. About the same amount is always in the water. It was worse and found that there was an adjustment on the Engine that let me raise it up a little more that was preset most likely from the factory. Search YouTube “Suzuki Trim Limiter Switch”. I came upon that by accident. Just pay attention that you’re extra careful with not interfering with your steering ram and any control cables. If you not maxed out with the limiter you may get some more lift height to get it closer to being out of the water.
