I finished the rewire of my 24'6" express fisherman (1981 model and o/b). I want to again thank everyone who contributed advice and help. Finally used a plastic breadboard as a backing and put new fuse blocks and negative buss bars in. Did one set of circuits for things coming from the engine and fused each item and then another set of circuits for non-engine related items, fusing each of those too.
A gas tank question. I took up the floor board and found a good 40 gallon plastic tank with no particular problems. But I noted around the fittings that there were crystals not unlike the kind of think you see with battery corrosion, but white in color. What is that?
Another question. I have lots of room in the compartment for the tank. Apparently whoever fitted the current tank went the smaller rather than larger tank option. Is it possible to put a second tank in there with a dual-tank conversion kit? What kit would people recommend if this is a good option?
Thanks

Congrats on the wiring.
I'd say on the tank if it ain't broke don't fix..but if you want larger it would probably be easier just to put in one tank. Less stuff to go wrong and/or break. Less is always more on the water in the instance of something going wrong
Don't know about the white crystals though, never heard of it? Any leaks on the tank from the hatch area :?:

How about posting a picture of the crystals? It could be simple aluminum corrision or about anything else.
Regarding the tank, the 1981 model Express Fisherman came with a 120 gallon tank, so I bet your 40 gallon does have a lot of space left over! I would suggest looking around a bit and finding a bigger replacement tank. Go with one big tank rather than two smaller ones - it's simpler and easier in the long run.

Does anybody know if the stringers in the 1981 express fisherman are solid glass or do they have foam or wood cores? Mine is a 24' 6" o/b.
Sorry, I can't post pictures of the crystals on the gas tank fittings b/c I cleaned them up.
