Title: Need wiring diagram for 1974 19-6
Post by: kevinr on April 20, 2020, 10:54:35 PM
I need a wiring diagram for a 1974 19-6 center console.

And i have a specific question - where does the ignition switch get its 12v power? i saw one picture that suggested it came from the motor (12v hot to the starter solenoid) carried by a wire in the control harness.

Thanks for the help.

I'm afraid you will not find a factory wiring diagram specifically for your model hull.
However, (since you didn't state your motor model and year) there are schematics available online as well as in the service manual of your motor. You are correct in that the ignition switch power feed comes through the harness that comes from your motor.

I'm sure the "pistonheads" on the Forum can tell you exactly what wire/color/gauge and location for what ever engine you have so post up a little more detail and you'll have your answer.

Until then, you may find these .pdf files useful.

Good luck. :thumright:

Try these guys. I've used this site many times in my Johnyrude days.

ok - i cant find a post on my ignition switch with 12v hot, so i backed up to the motor.

I pulled the plug from the control. attached a pic of the end that wires into the motor.

I'm about to show my ignorance I'm sure - but shouldnt one of these have 12v on it?  if the ignition switch gets 12v from the motor (and this is the only set of wires coming from the motor to the control box), then shouldnt one of these be hot?  I tested every contact - zip.

I do have 12v at the solenoid. it has 2 smaller red wires coming from that into the wiring bundle, but they may not go to the control bundle.

Trace the wire from the solenoid to a fuse holder. That might be a 40 amp fuse and could be blown/corroded. Power passes through that fuse forward to the ignition switch. My old 84 Johnson had spare fuse stored in the cowling.

yep...didnt know there was an inline fuse. they had a 20 in it. it was toast. replaced it - now the ignition has 12v. 1 problem down...99 to go. It's the "project life"...
