Title: Rectifier problem
Post by: Kenny on March 20, 2020, 07:38:32 PM
1987 170 with 1987 Johnson 110 replaced rectifier worked for 40 minutes then quit working what could cause this
Well I should say the tach and the vote gauge dropped before I replaced it the tach would work until you got above 2000 RPMs now it does nothing

Loose wire??  Marine rectifiers are usually pretty durable, but you can go with a commercial unit for a lot less money.  You may need to change terminals, but something like this might work better for less $$$:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/2Pcs-1000V-50A-Metal-Case-Single-Phase-Diode-Bridge-Rectifier-KBPC5010-USA/233383259967?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item3656b9ef3f:g:Ap8AAOSwzb5dt1G5&enc=AQAEAAACUBPxNw%2BVj6nta7CKEs3N0qUjyIZN8A49aJufQXgbtRWoD6hShCt1aNzybZ9JGI4TEbPCyce%2Bkip%2FNRgGRUa8ThEYv97hxgb0kHYsMReW5PiqKLF4cyx1zxM7GnGPDxZaoTbqpkGqxzLXX2M%2Bnf9ulatx7PkF1mafxPK1bM8I2BW50X8k%2F9%2B7Jq8Z5efUdDucuaLYOy%2BY3qZ%2FF1fujZtZSlca8DT4QaMawWc8ZzLv%2FWzMeqN5HuEDQIQiOQEG5rYSCWpkTFZuS%2BX6iMBivxETxVdDZYEHM9JoL13OQlmCLr9J4qwDuY1qvPzFaUu4TBhyeveYocu0evXGRi3DdAW92NeCsZSV%2BRrWX6Uwm95ohHUILL%2FSID33rKdRuLK70cCCLlKfw8gLJHEUcQcFnM38G57OngP9%2B55BQwqBBPI5wB6lNdkr4Tf%2FNEJgW9gcnVnLQqTyc3z3GE0JvoFdZdDEyHmnPICHfN4KLL7%2Bkfnr5Ja8d15uSrAxzG5lmjm1yOgTA49y%2BbyA04lyuwqfcwARcts8c3h6rUg682HnmH1CqjVRqze%2BSqekCWK5PZ%2F70xteRUZp9aLu9bzs9NBG%2BAvww2QaidZOzQyLIiFehqMsT6dxZOG3VAIqYY%2FiaDnJ6vm6qWspCPm1MUVPdAsRehLodcWhTbSLLBW%2B8Ecp4vVBjU5sI0imee6HjJLoXEWQl5lYA%2Bxmt%2BFeX%2FlCgAavKf2ePltjEq3bdeRrZa1SGJb%2F65d1YWrSmcPKg5GJ1YM1OVZMbfSTeZNrka8CFw%2FuSo3pzbg%3D&checksum=23338325996732d02825c7ae4447b7f812697694502d

It could be a loose wire haven’t had time to look but when I had it out this weekend it was working

I never checked it myself the guy I got it from was a mechanic and told me that was the only thing wrong with it and it did not charge according to the gauge and the tach did not work properly so I replaced it and everything worked for about 40 minutes or an hour and then it quit
