Not a fiberglass guy, but want to learn. I love my 22-2 ccp but dont like the open transom. I would like to close it and add a bracket. Would i have to cut the whole transom off and build new? Or can i just fill in the opening. There seems to be a lot of wasted space in the back of the boat. I figured i could gain almost a foot of deck spa e for fishing. If anyone has done this mod, some pics and explanation would be great! Thanks guys!

There are many approaches to filling in a transom and adding a bracket. On my 200 CCP, THE transom, and a whole lot of other stuff was bad, so I went with a complete rebuild with an Armstrong Bracket.

My transom rebuild starts here: https://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=13659.30
If your transom is in good shape, you could do as little as filling in the cutout with a piece of starboard or other material. Of course that would leave you with the splash well taking up room in the cockpit. I’d be inclined toward cutting out the splash well and glassing in the transom, maybe adding a transom livewell too.

Thats awesome. Thank you. Thats exactly what i want to do. Did you do the work yourself or have it professionally done?

I did it all myself, though if I could have, I would have farmed the fairing and paint out to pros. They’re both time consuming. The fairing is hard physical work. And I’m not 100% pleased with the finish. Oh well, I’m going to take it out and fish it hard anyway.
There are a lot of examples of various approaches to full transoms in the rebuilds. As you go through the threads, I recommend that you limit yourself to CCP rebuilds. The 22-2, and 196/200 Ospreys are a lot more common than the CCP, so there are ideas there too. The 170/175 is probably the most common Aquasport model, but it is not a likely candidate for a full transom and bracket.
