Title: EVINRUDE 1999, 115 HP, FICHT
Post by: BOBBY74AQUA on October 31, 2018, 12:00:03 PM
Motor runs great at idle, new fuel and new plugs, once it warms up, starts misfiring and back fires out of exhaust and shuts down. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

You need the diagnostics software to diagnose those things.  You can buy the software with cable on Ebay. Just be sure to read the sellers rating.  I bought my Etec software from a guy in Croatia or something like that.

I would check fuel and injectors first.  Had it been sitting for any length of time?  what kind of fuel is being used (ethanol)?  What kind of oil?  I would start by checking the fuel pumps.  You have two.  A low pressure vacuum operated lift pump and the high pressure circulating pump.  It may run on the lift pump alone but fall on its face or overheat if the the high pressure pump is not running.  With the cowl off you should hear the electric pump kick on for a few seconds when you first turn on the key.

Also I'm not sure if it's required on the Ficht (probably was a later requirement) but did you index (clock) the plugs?  The opening of the plug should be facing the injectors to prevent carbon build up.

Thanks for the reply , I pulled ECU off to get to top coil to check it. The cooling tube for the ECU was 100% clogged. I assume it's fried from running hot. Pulled off and sent it in to get checked out.
Pretty sure that's the problem.
