Title: Replace Fishbox Pump with Macerator
Post by: john250x on July 09, 2018, 11:31:04 PM

I am planning on replacing the fishbox pump with a macerator on my Explorer 250x. The macerator current rating is 12 Amps. I am wondering if I can get away with just increasing the breaker rating at the helm and use the existing wire. I forgot to check the wire gauge when I was on the boat. I think it's around 16 AWG, which would would drop a couple of volts at 12 Amps. Not sure if the pump would have startup problems at 10 V.

It would be easy enough to install a waterproof relay in the transom, but I would like to hear from anyone that has installed a macerator using the existing fishbox pump-out wiring.
