Title: What's up with this Aquasport transom?
Post by: amill411 on July 01, 2018, 10:04:31 PM
So I'm in the middle of trying to fix up the transom on my 91 Aquasport 175 Osprey.

I've managed to cut the top off and get into the transom (was hoping to use a pour-able transom product)

I've dug a lot of wood out (really it was just mulch at this point) and now I've gotten down to a fiberglass piece that appears to slope downward towards the stern at around a 45 degree angle. This is a little over a foot down from where I cut it open right below the engine mounting holes and scuppers.

I'm not really sure where to go from here because I was under the impression that it would be wood all the way to the bottom of the transom.

If someone could chime in and let me know what the deal is here I would appreciate it.

That's weird. Are you sure it is not solid wood?

Could it be a glued scarf join in the ply? It is very odd.

So I broke through the fiberglass (it's definitely glass)

Under the fiberglass was.... the bilge area

Still not sure what the deal is here haven't seen another transom like this

Maybe you got a Friday afternoon hull?  :41:
So is your intention to pour the replacement transom?  If so, Lars did that on his 175

That would be unfortunate haha. Yes that was the original plan however I'm a bit worried that the stringers may need some love as well.

So not ply all the way to the bottom? That's different.

My stringers were wet too, and had to be emptied of foam. If you use Seacast (I can highly recommend it) you need to have all the wood removed.

There are quite a lot of pictures of how I did it. I'm sure there are other ways to go about it, but please check my thread for ideas. My transom is on it's 4th season, and is nice and strong.
