Looking at replacing my fuel tank and found one at a good price that I think will fit. When the previous owner replaced the floor, he covered over everything and put in a 35 gallon tank with a front pick up. Its causing problems with the motor since the gas moves in the tank. Does anyone know the dimensions of the fuel tank area between the stringers on a 1984 200CCCP? Thanks

I'm not sure this helps because it is the size of the tank itself that came with the hull from the factory. Of course we have no idea what was done to the actual coffin when the deck was replaced but assuming the coffin is still intact, this is what you would be working with.

I just pulled the tank in my '78 200 CCP. The tank coffin will measure very similar to the tank itself. The only difference will be the length. My tank was a 73 gallon. Here are the measurements of the tank.
72" Long
24" Wide (top)
20" Wide (bottom)
11" High or deep
As I said, the coffin will have very close measurements to the tank give or take a couple of inches. I can get the entire length of the coffin if you need it.

I just ordered mine last week from Phil with Alloy Metal Works out of Farmingdale, NY. This is the 3rd tank I have had him make. You might want to check him out.

Hey Rick. I still have my Explorer but I did pick up a 1978 200 CCP for another toy :thumright: I guess big Mike still might have his but he moved away and haven't spoke to him in years.
I keep my Explorer at the coast and I just wanted another CCP to play with. I will post some pictures in the CCP section.

So I found a tank for a good price but the dimensions are scaring me just a bit. Its a 55 gallon moeller poly. I measured what I could get to and its very close and I may be trying to talk myself into it.
55-Gallon, 51" x 25.5" x 12.5
I measure from the bottom of the area the current tank is and I got 15" to the bottom of the deck. I need 2 1/8" plus the height of the tank for the height of the filler tube.
Is this tank too big?

Are you planning on prepping & installing tank using Pascoe method? If so, you'll need to add the thickness of the PVC board (usually 1/4" or 3/8"). Also, be sure to add the thickness of the fuel inlet hose to the overall height of tank. I think it's 1/4", but not positive. So in essence, your total tank height from bottom to top, if using pascoe method (recommended) is:
Thickness of pvc +
Height of tank +
Height of fuel inlet elbow +
Thickness of fuel inlet hose

With fuel inlet measured its 15.5 inches to the top. The tank is tapered on the sides down to the flat bottom which is about 4" wide. It looks like its either going to be perfect or miss it by a little bit. Just don't want to spend the money on it and find out its a little too big. Poly tank so I was thinking about just resting it on the hull itself.

My fault, must of missed you were using poly so won't need to elevate tank off coffin. Hate to be a buzz kill but the overall height can't miss by as little as an 1/8" or hatch won't seal, unless you're willing to risk the $$$.

Well, if anybody is interested i can tell you exactly the dimensions of the fuel tank coffin. I talked myself into cutting out the floor and pulling the itty bitty tank out. The way it looks, the one I'm buying will fit just fine. Never knew there was that much space down there!

I measured the space in the area from hull interior bottom between stringers at the base and at the top.
At the base of the stringers, from one stringer to the other in a straight line across the hull is 24.5 inches
At the top of the stringers, from one stringer to the other is 31.5 inches
From keel to bottom of my deck is 16 inches. My deck was replaced so it is a little higher than standard.
Can someone please look at what I'm thinking of doing to put this poly tank in and tell me if it should work out.
The way the tank is contoured it rests on the keel and the angle on both sides matches the angle but is there is approximately 2.25 inches gap between tank and hull. My thought is to lay 6 inch wide boards, about 2 inches longer than the tank, parallel to the stringers and glass them to the bottom and then top them with neoprene pads appx 1/2 inch thick. Or..... do I need to break those boards into sections about 6 inches wide and space them a little under the tank. I am also building a bulkhead fore and aft of the tank figuring in 3% for tank expansion.
Any suggestions or criticism is appreciated. I want to do this one time.
