Title: Johnson 225 tilt leaking
Post by: gunsgunsguns on December 02, 2017, 04:57:50 PM
Hello, I have a 1995 ocean runner 225 that has fluid leaking out of the tilt piston.  Does anyone know how to fix this if it is fixable at all?
Thanks,
mike

There is seal kits to repair them.  Hardest part is getting to them. A mechanic that has done a few can do it within book time, me it would take way more time (like days).  I had my mechanic do it - cost $400.

You can get a seal kit for it. Not cheap. Not easy to do either. You need a special spanner to remove the cylinder end. Also a shop crane to lift the engine. Not an easy job to begin with and even harder when things don't come apart due to corrosion.

Sometimes it's cheaper to replace the whole power trim unit with a gently used one.
