Title: Trouble seeing pictures
Post by: doyle007 on July 02, 2017, 09:34:21 AM
I was reviewing a few threads, and I seem to get a lot of images that do not appear. In their place I get a box that says "Please update your account to enable third party hosting". It then has a link displayed for photobucket.com/p500.

Any idea what this is about? This is happening on my iPad and Pc.

Thanks.

What you are seeing is corp greed taking over - overnight they went from a free hosting site that we've used for a dozen years to one that now wants 399.99 per year for the same service.  Kinda like that guy that bought the one drug and raised the price from like $40 to $700 per dose.
My $.02 and I was affected by them big time.  I hope enough affected users email them and tell them they're crazy - there are still free hosting sites out there.  I would pay like $5 / month but not $39.99 like they want.

Rickk,
I'm getting the same msg about updating account to see pix.  I am able to see very few pix and the remainder are the up date box.
What's the solution?
Thanks

There are two solutions.

One is very simple, the other not so simple.

The easiest is that we Photobucket people pay a membership fee to their host site. This will then open the links and the photos should reappear where ever we linked them on the WEB.

The not so simple method is what I'm doing now, that is transferring my PB photos concerning this Forum over to our Photo Gallery. Not really that difficult, just time consuming but....
I will then need to revisit my posts and determine just what photo I posted and redo the link back to my Gallery. More trouble in that I may not recall the exact placement of the photo (I'm old and approaching increased dementia) and of course it requires more time consumption (I grow lazier by the minute).

I can only speak for myself on the first. While I freely admit I have enjoyed free 3rd party photo hosting, I will not pay for it concerning photos of Aquasports especially since our site is free.

At the end of the day, I can only control my photos. What other members choose to do is strictly up to them. However, should they choose to at least transfer their linked pics to this site, I'll do my best to get them back into the thread and hopefully as close to the original order as possible.
