Title: engine swap??
Post by: bigbotes on April 03, 2016, 01:00:11 PM
Ok here goes......... '96 Osprey 200 with '98 Johnson 130hp 4v 2 stroke. Engine runs fine. I know, leave well enough alone. My goal is to put a Johnson 115 4 stroke on so as to not mess with oil and crap. Would this be pretty much a remove and replace job?? I know its a pretty vague question but thanks.

Is there any weight difference and if so, how will it affect the self bail of the boat?  You can test by putting sand bags of the weight difference on top of your existing motor and see what the effect it.

well I don't have sand bags but I figured a lesser size engine would be a little lighter. The transom feels rock solid and I saw no shaking of it when I had the boat at just under wide open throttle.

Check the weight - the 4 Cyls are very heavy - google the weight of the 115.

I belive the four stroke Johnsons are Suzuki in a different dress right? Not sure if the harness and cables are compatible or not.
