Title: Leaning Post or Seat Replacement Ideas
Post by: FreasFlatFoto on March 06, 2016, 08:10:18 PM
I have a 97 model 175 Osprey.  I currently have an Engel cooler with a pad on the top for a seat.  I find myself standing the entire time I drive so I am looking for a good leaning post option or bench seat with backrest.  I havent been able to find anything online, so looking for some ideas.

Any help is appreciated in advance!

I got mine from a builder on eBay, but I can't remember who exactly it was. It was like just over 600 bux and comes with 4 rod holders, a removalble backrest that goes in 2 of the rod holders, a flip up seat with a storage tray, and a foldable foot rest.

It was a bit tall for my boat and ended up cutting 2" out of it to lower it down. I messaged the builder to ask him to make it shorter but it was too late and it was already made and wrapped up for shipping.

As shown above, having it built to size will give you the best opportunity to get what you want, which is?

Leaning post/ bench seat and retain the cooler?

Same as above with removable back rest?

A fishin' friend had this style in his 17 Cape Horn(?). It was surprisingly comfortable.

Thing about peds is that they are adjustable for height. I've been told not all fishers of men are of the same stature.

Just a thought.

PS... In the future, you could replace the bench with helm seats but that is usually the opposite case.

Good luck. :thumright:

Here is the seat Rickk had made for his 170.

Fellow member Randy Duggers is the builder.  He is located in Sarasota, but I'm sure he could ship it.  He does great work.

Do you have his contact info or website??

I have been looking at this one a lot today as what I am thinking.  The only thing is that the backrest is another $260.  I may be getting sticker shock as this is my first boat and the term still applies.  Break Out Another Thousand

What is his screen name on here so I can message him?

I have been looking all over the net today and pulled measurements.  Would rather a 175 owner build it since he already knows the size

His screen name is randy56100.  I'm not sure how often he check in here.  Did that number not work?  Rick probably has a good number since he recently got his leaning post from him.

I just did a quick eBay search as my history doesn't go back far enough to see my purchase. Looks like secustom1 is the eBay name. Looks like I mis-remebered the price a little bit too by the ads they have, but mine doesn't have the rod holders on the backrest like the ones for sale now.

I got his normal height one, whatever that is. I can try and measure it tomorrow. I had I believe 2" taken out of it at a local welder as it sit obnoxiously high for our low consoles. one other thing to remember is to see about what color youre going to run (if any) under the post. my igloo 54qt marine will not open fully but it will open plenty far enough to get what you need out of it. I also cut an inch or so out the storage bin under the seat to raise it up and allow me to open the cooler a little more since I lowered the post down.

currently I have the post back out of the boat as ive begun doing the repower swap

I just measured my lost and the top of the seat cushion where you sit is exactly 30-1/2" from the ground.

That helps.  Thanks.  Any problems with the install or tips?

just be sure you measure youre cooler if you plan on putting one under there. that tray under the seat limits how far you can open the lid, the thicker marine igloo cooler lids limit lid opening capability
