Title: 01 Evinrude 150 Manual Release
Post by: Thunderyacht on April 10, 2015, 01:35:00 PM
So my port motor on my 01 AS Osprey has decided it no longer wants to go up, only down.  Ordered the new solenoids for it, but in the mean time I'd like to let it down so i can change the gear oil.  According to my repair manual, and operator's manual, I should be able to loosen the manual release screw and lift the motor and get it off the trailering bracket.  Well, I've loosened the screw and i can't budge that motor.  I even used a jack under it thinking it was too heavy to move, but no dice.  Any suggestions or ideas?

How comfortable are you with electrical work?  You can jumper the solenoid (if it is the problem) and get the motor up that way - but you need a conductor capable of the amps required.  Did you try lifting up with the manual release fully out?  Sometimes it does not work quite like it should...

I did not take the screw completely out, but I can try that, I backed it out about 3 turns.  Also, when I looked up the solenoids in the parts catalog it stated I needed 4 of them??  Is that correct?  The diagram is only showing one!?

Do not take that screw out completely or you may have some check balls and springs fallout and you're done!

Good to know!  Should fluid come out of manual valve when it's open?  I know there is plenty of tilt/trim fluid, I checked that after lifting the engines the first time.

No Fluid should come out. You are just releasing system pressure by opening a check valve, the oil dumps back into the system internally. Strange you cant budge the motor unless the tilt bushings are seized or stuck.

You can do this:

And then enable the lock:
