Title: New owner of a 1977 ? 22-2 CCP
Post by: gman 82 aquasport on March 26, 2015, 10:42:48 PM
Finally pulled the trigger and picked up a 222 CCP :dance02: with a lot of help from J Dupree :13:..he found one in the trees down at Harkers Island and after a lot of chasing around, found the owner and JD got in touch with him and after 2 months of phone tag and text tag, :whoo: I meet up with him today and paid for it and got a bill of sale. Now to get the time to go back down with 4 new tires and hubs and get her out of the bushes and remove 4 inches of leaves, vines and whatever else is in the hull. The floor is totally shot , transom seems fair but will be redone for a bracket. Will get a rewire and console redone along with the coffin box. Stay tuned, pics will follow soon, this will be a long project..It also comes on a trailer..

OK, Gary - you got her!   :thumleft:  Now the fun begins.  I assume it has the coffin and is complete.  Post some pics "as is" with the vines and stuff so we get a good "before" picture.  That will make the "after" picture SO much better!   :salut2:

I will help him out with the pictures since I already have them.  These were taken a couple of years ago, so she is a little dirtier :thumright:

It's amazing to see things growing in a boat.

Yeah, she has about 4 inches of leaves and stuff in her now, you can't see the floor..the tires are flat and pretty much dry rotted. but when she gets rolling, I will hose her down and out the when I get her back this way I will remove the console and the coffin box, then the tank cover and the tank, that should be interesting, no telling what the tank looks like..then I will cut the transom apart from the inside the get her ready for a new full transom, she will be getting a bracket. My plan is a full transom, bracket, live well at the transom, new floor, wiring, plumbing, redo the coffin box and console, add a t-top, then sell my 19-6 and put a motor on her..time frame 12-18 months.. as long as not to many headaches involved :bangbang2: will get some newer pics when I go to get her then some after a little clean up..The teak may not make it back on the rebuild

I would like to claim the teak anchor locker door for my 246 if you decide not to use it :thumright:

Interesting - it has the 22-2 emblems on the sides like the Ospreys.  No CCP - my 1980 came with decals.  I checked my older 1977 catalog and, sure enough, the CCPs had the raised emblems, not decals.  The '77 model may have been the first year for the CCP - and may have been the last year for the 240.  Has anyone heard of a pre-1977 CCP?

My 246 CCP is a 1979 and it had the decal that said Aquasport 246 CCP.  I can still see the shadow where the decal was.  I am going to double check the HIN# when I am down at Harkers this weekend, but I think Garry's is a 1978 based on what I remember seeing on the HIN.

From what I have seen, the 1978 might have even been the first year for the CCP line.  I have not seen any 1977's in any CCP'S.  I really think Garry's is a 1978.  If it is indeed a 1977, that will prove me wrong.

What I did notice with Garry's, that inside the boat the plastic emblem says copyright 1977 but I think the Hull number is 1978.  Maybe they produced the CCP late in 1977 and made 1978 the first model year.  I will report back once I see the HIN.

A long time ago, there was this.

Unfortunately, without the HIN (I couldn't see where it was ever posted) I'm thinking it's just a guess on the member's part.

1978 could be right - I think my 77 catalog might be for the 78 model year.  The HIN will tell the story!   :nSalute:

It definitely is one of the first. Besides the original 22-2 badge, notice the famous "army man green" rubrail :danceSm:

JD if you get the chance , how about texting me the HIN# and I will post it or post it and I can see it as well. The paperwork I got from the owner didn't have the hin# written down. I know it's on the 07 sticker and on the back left corner. Would be nice to know the actual year of it..

10-4, I will be down there this weekend.  I am almost positive that the last 2 digits are 78.  I will let you know.

JD was down and sent me the HIN#, ASPA0124M78B, so she is a 78 model.

Unless someone shows us something different, I think 1978 was the first year of the CCP line.  You have a classic for sure Garry :nSalute:

And I assume that she was #124 made? Either way I am in the process of getting things lined up to get her back here and cut apart to see how her bones are..There will be a Johnson 235 for sale in about 2 months  Have new hubs for the trailer and am picking up 4 wheels and tires first of next week.

Well you do know that's the hull serial # and it would follow that it is derived from some order but.....

Looking at what we have..
http://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=3847.msg24380#msg24380

Notice the ASPA hulls flow nicely from year through serial #.
The ASPPs start the same but notice how JD's drifts out of line.

We'll probably never really know but for all intent, you have the oldest 22-2 we've seen here.

Koz still has/had the oldest "registered"(by date) CCP (200) but his serial # is higher than yours. :?:
Different model  :ScrChin:   So who really knows?

Congrats.

M78B means she was made in September, 1978.  She could even be a 1979 model, as the new model year usually kicks off in August.  That's why the letter "A" starts with August.  Doesn't really matter - not many around of that vintage anyway!   :thumleft:

Will do. Just hope no one wants to shoot the new owner for a few upgrades :tb:.The guy JD got his 246 from has a bracket that I want to look at, it will have to have platforms added to the sides but may be a good starting point..It will keep the coffin box and probably the fuel tank will be basically the same size(no smaller), console may be narrowed or replaced. Going to get with my welding buddy to see if we can come up with an idea to make a folding hardtop t-top.. :coolth:
