Recently my father and I bought a 1974 170 and have begun to "tidy" up some things on the console. The previous owner we believe has messed with some of the wiring and we just want to correct as much as we can. So far we have run new wires to the bow and stern light and bilge. We moved on to the tach and it gets no power, so we looked at the ignition as well. We are a little stumped. I have a 6 position ignition and all wires coming to the ignition work. The previous owner instead of using the purple wire took a wire from the battery and installed in on the "I" post on the ignition. We followed the wires in the harness to the factory plugin at the motor and we can not find the purple wire on the motor side of the factory plugin but all other colors are there. Also the tan wire was cut and does not seem to be attached to the water pump. We have a 1986 Mariner 90hp any help would be greatly appreciated or if a manual for the motor can be had that would help too.

Pics of what you're looking at always help.
Good luck.
