I have a 71 fb that I repowred with a 140 HP suzuki.  The boat runs 35 to 38 mph max, but I get great gas mileage.  Most people laughed but a 135 HP was the largest motor they made in the 70's.  I wish I had a larger motor, however I saved money with the purchase and gas.  Check out the pictures under my username or 71 flatback.

Thanks for the response.
This boat currently has a 89 150 Yamaha 2 stoke.
Has really been good and perfomed good fishng in the Big Bend area.
Been sitting up now for 3 yrs since I bought a 20 Mako to fish Lousianna Marsh.
One of them has to go.
I prefer going back to the Aquasport.
Trying to figure out how much I need to spend.

Thanks again
Garo

i would max hp for many reasons, including lower rpm tp plane and cruise translates into longer engine life, and better resale value

I think the Suzuki 140 is perfect for this boat, I will be looking for one when our project flatback is ready.  The boat was never designed to go super fast and have a heavy motor hanging of the back.
