I have a humminbird fishfinder on my 17.5. It has worked perfectly but this summer it just stopped displaying on screen. It make a faint beep when I try to power up but nothing come up just a blank screen. Is it time to replace. Can I just replace the unit and keep the rest or is it best to replace all parts
Thanks
John

3, if you replace the head unit with an identical or similar model from the same vintage, it's just a matter of un-plugging the old, plugging in the new. HB has been pretty good over the years in keeping the ducer and power supply plugs the same. Check ebay for a replacement head unit, a lot of the ones for sale cheap on there don't come with the ducer or the power cord...which you don't need...

I would try and hook it up directly to a battery to see if that makes a difference. Could be corrosion in the wiring keeping it from getting full flow of juice.

Ditto on what Lewis said - check all the connections carefully - beep and off usually means low voltage.

Depending on model, Hummingbird has some fairly reasonable service costs and flat rates. In some cases, hundreds of dollars less than a new replacement. If you go to their website you can look up your model and determine the max service costs and decide the economics. If its 5 or 10 years old maybe not but its worth a look before tossing it.
