While surfing Craigslist, I found an original 1969 19-1 Gull for sale. The boat is in Pensacola and I had the privileged to talk to the owner about some if it. I found out that the deck and transom was completely original along with the 20 gal above deck fuel tank. He just painted the hull and been running it ever since. Said it takes the waves just fine and runs skinny 4-8" and handles 2-4' as well. Another thing, is he is just the second owner of it :thumleft: I am not posting the craigslist add link as I don't want this to disappear into cyberspace and beyond and put the photos as a frame of reference for the few of us who have these boats :wink: So for your viewing pleasure, here are some photos. Saw that on cl, with the above deck gas tank, center console position and throttle mounting, it looks a bit half-assed to me, but I do like the lines on these older hills than the newer ones.

They do look like an engineering oops on the CG. "Well we have to move the console forward somehow... we'll just notch it and bolt it to the casting deck". It is what it is though, a unique model.

My bad on my comment. That seems like an unbalanced layout.

The console against the deck was called the Gull model, the console in the center with front seat prior to casting deck was called an Osprey. 2 models same boat hull, just different console placement.

Do you think they left the casting deck the same size? Seems moving the console aft would change the CoG - shortening the casting deck might offset that allowing the console more forward.

The casting deck is the same size on both models, minus the area occupied by the console of course. But the casting deck is actually so light it wouldn't have made much of a difference bigger or smaller, when I cut mine out with the storage box still attached it couldn't have weighed more than 100 lbs, 3/8" wood core was still dry.
The Gull has a notch removed about a foot long from the rear of the casting deck that the console fits over, they placed a 26 gal. above deck fuel tank under the console that needs the extra space gained by the notch.
My guess was always that they were either going for a utility boat that required a lot of open deck space, or something that would get up on plane easy with one person and not a lot of power. Either way I like it, anchored up fishing out the back it's a great layout.

As a kid I lobstered out of a 22 Sisu and a 19 Seaway that had consoles up forward like that. The ride was lively to say the least because you were far ahead of the pivot point but it was also soft and dry. We had tons of room aft for gear and working around the warf or the mooring could not have been easier. Then, I always wondered way you would want a console aft, it made no sense. Now I completely understand that it all depends on how you want to run the boat and what you use it for...
FWIW, when we ran to town (about 23 miles) when riders started feeling green, they got sent aft where the motion was less.. BUT, the is also where the bait box was.. :twisted:
