Title: sending unit help

I have a 1988 aquasport 222 osprey ..  my fuel guage stopped working ,  from what ive read I believe I have narrowed it down to it being the sending unit..   I grounded the wires for the guage and it shot up to full.  Which in return I am told is a bad sendi g unit...   soooooo,,,,  is this correct??? And if so ,, what type of sending u kt and from where do you gents recommend?
