Title: Ground tab fuel tank
Post by: bondobill on May 29, 2014, 07:02:17 PM
Grounding tab on my fuel tank is corroded off. Some question as to whether it was busted off during some rewiring I had done but I will give the shop the benefit of doubt.

Can I just ground the wires to the screws of the sending unit, would JB weld work to reattach the tab ?
What about running a ground from the battery
I replaced this tank going on 15 years ago and I will  be danged if I will replace it again for this issue.

I tried loading some photos but it aint working for me

Don't see why grounding to the sending unit wouldn't work.

Strange about the photo gallery, its been working like a champ. Can't upload to your member gallery?

Yes Bill, you can ground the tank using one of the screws that attaches the sender.  Even though there is a gasket between the sender flange and the tank, continuity is achieved between the threads in the tank and the screw...

Thanks Scotty and Bob  :salut:
Exactly what I was hoping to hear. The shop that was working on the boat wanted to replace the tank for this. Somehow  the fuel gauge stopped working between the last time I used it and them working on the wiring.
They had to replace the lead to the sending unit on the tank that's when they found the tab corroded or busted off. I asked them if they could just ground to something else and they said cause of liability reason they couldn't do it. I told them to leave the coffin lid off and I would address it.

I aint really certain why I couldn't upload photos, I have always used  PB but I kept getting message saying photos exceeded 800 pixels high. I tried resizing and got the same message.
Last Sunday I posted a photo the same way I have always done and had no issue.

Working now
Didn't do anything different then I did yesterday.
Thinking maybe it may have been a PB problem.
Yesterday I tried uploading from my Iphone, my laptop at work and then my PC at home. Had no luck with all 3.

This morn tried uploading from my laptop at work...its working now.  :D
I use Internet Explorer on my labtop at work and Firefox on my home PC
