Title: weekend of upgrades and repairs on Reel Crazy
Post by: wingtime on April 14, 2014, 03:55:01 PM
I spent the majority of my weekend doing some electronics upgrades and repairs on Reel Crazy.

The catalyst of all this was the arrival of my new Lowrance HDS-7m Gen2 touch chart plotter. Of course the idea is to network it with my existing HDS-7 system that includes a structure scan module in the cabin.  In order to run the cables I had to remove the edging around my cabin door so I could remove the headliner (more on this later).  Once I had the cable routing figured out wiring the unit was easy.  Three wires (+, -, wake up) and a network cable.  I have to say the screen is much better on the touch unit than the standard unit.

Since I had to remove the cabin door trim I decided it was a good time to reseal it.  So in order to make things easier I removed the acrylic hatchway cover.  While it was off I polished it with some plastic polish.

I polished the hinges too:

I rehung my first aid kit next to the door with the proper sizes screws so it would be easier to take on and off.

I put the access cover back in place.  You can see my mesh organizer I made last year.

I installed my new trailer jack. ( sorry no pic)

I picked up a set of plastic bunk glides at T.A. Mahoney.  To install them I jacked up one side of the hull at a time with my Hi-Lift Jack.  Then I just simply slid them in place.

(http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j196/wingtime/1998%20245%20Explorer/DSCN4561_zps5c3ae28d.jpg) (http://s80.photobucket.com/user/wingtime/media/1998%20245%20Explorer/DSCN4561_zps5c3ae28d.jpg.html)

Here is a shot of the glides installed taken under the boat while on my creeper.  As you can see the bottom paint is wearing and flaking off the bottom of the boat.  And no I was not under the boat while it was jacked up!

(http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j196/wingtime/1998%20245%20Explorer/DSCN4571_zpsa742f972.jpg) (http://s80.photobucket.com/user/wingtime/media/1998%20245%20Explorer/DSCN4571_zpsa742f972.jpg.html)

While I was under the boat on the creeper I decided to inspect the bottom of the hull.  I didn't find any cracks, blisters or worn through gel coat.  I beat on the hull in several places and I have to say these boats are as solid as a rock.

So that is a few items checked off my list.

Very nice work with the install and upgrades..

I worked last night on a few things.. most notably the stern fish box pie plate install and almost completing my macerater pump install. The final steps required me to cut the pie plate to get access to the existing drain area from the back so I can drill it out and put in a new fitting for the hose connection.  I'll send some pics b/f I seal her up!  Oh- I cant forget two new flip down cup (Beer) holders.  I broke one on Sat when I bumped into it while offshore!  :thumright: Life is good when I have projects keeping me busy!

Sooner or later I have to resign myself to breaking into and using the detail kit I purchased through Marine 31.  I gotta do this b/f it gets too hot.
