Title: Planning a purchase

Been gone a while and I think my dream has shrunk a bit.  I now am looking for a 19'6".  I live in Central Florida, so I like the option of throwing it in at a local lake or river, as well as traveling to the coast or intracoastal.  I just need a little guidance.  I was considering buying a little bit newer 20 (90's).  Is there a cut off year where the quality and character of the classic aquasport was lost.  I want this boat to last til I can pass it down to my kids. So if going with a classic rebuild (myself or buying complete) is far superior, then that is what I will do.  I will pull the trigger soon (I hope) so any advice will be greatly appreciated.
