is it just me or does the 246 ccp seem to feel much bigger than most 24 ft boats?
does anyone know where the 24'6 is measured from- transom to ??
have been looking at other boats and even 26 ft ones seem smaller than my 246. I feel like if I were to get a new boat to replace it and wanted similar size and freeboard I would need to get at least a 25 contender of 26 regulator.
I guess my point is the 246 is like a tank.
thoughts?

The 246 should be a true 24'6" measured down the center line. Some newer boats are measured including pulpits etc so they would be much smaller than your 246. Also as you know the 246/250 have some huge freeboard compared to other boats.

Always keep in mind, a model number does NOT have to reflect how long it actually is...only the LOA listed in the boat's specs, for official type purposes.
The perfect example is Stamas Yacht's 392 Aegean. When I started there in '00, it was the 360 Express. Shortly after that, it became the 370 Express. Now it's a 392...same exact boat, not a damn thing has changed about it. LOA is listed at 39' 2"...just like it was 14 years ago.
I'd guess little Johnny Stamas is gonna have to come out with a new boat if he wants to go bigger...

This is true and a good point Bob! For example my 245 as you know became the 250. Same boat... new stickers... but the OAL is actually 26' 4". Hmmm.

I remember the "change" well, Bruce. At the same time, the Wellcraft, what started as the 22WA, became a 23 WA, then finally a 24 WA!! Growing by leaps and bounds!!!

I recall Free you thought the hull was a 76
I'm thinking it's a little newer. 1980 246 CCPs were just that. 24'-6"
They would later become the 250 CCPs listed at 24'-8".
Go figure.

Can you post a pic of the HIN? Usually on the starboard transom high near the rubrail.

yes I think mine is around a 1976-1980 not sure though. but it on cape cod wrapped up so cant check it out for a few weeks. most of the numbers and plates are no longer visable. the sun and salt have taken their toll.
the massive freeboard makes the boat so sturdy. even with my blown engine and soft deck i think I am going to keep it instead of buying something newer. all the boats i look at Regulator 24, 26 contender 23/25 dont seem to have the set up I like.
for instance i love the coffin box set up for fishing or for lounging. also love the massive amount of space behind the helm. regulator would be nice but i cant stand the step up in deck.

I've always thought a 246 or 250 CCP with and enclosed transom and a bracket would be a sweet set up. Even better is if someone extended the running surface and made an euro type transom on one!

Not only are they deep and beefy....they ride great too

As a ccp fan and a 1979 246 ccp owner, I agree with many posts here. And yes, I am working on closing the transom and adding a bracket which should really add space and increase the wow factor. My one gripe is that it is a whopping 1 inch wider than my 200ccp was. 1 inch! That sucks. Sure it makes it cut though the rough that much better but I would have loved 6 or so more inches over the 200ccp.

Well I believe it's 2 inches wider but to add insult to injury. ...
My 210 is 6" broader in the beam than the 246.
Is there no justice in the boating world?
