Title: Teleflex no feedback steering
Post by: Robob on December 05, 2013, 02:06:40 PM
Any one have experience with a Teleflex no feedback steering system?

It seems a lot less expensive than hydraulic. I only want to change out steering on a 17.5 Osprey with a 90 HP Evinrude V4.

Any help will be appreciated.

Merry Christmas:-)

An excellent system and will do great with a 90.  There are actually quite a few boats (tons, really) running V6 150's using NFB steering...

I have it on my 18 Wellcraft Fisherman with 1986 Johnson 90hp.  It's a huge improvement over the Safe T or Big T Teleflex helms but nowhere near the cost of hydraulic.  It works great.  I currently have an old Teleflex helm on my current boat and have been using the engine trim to neutralize the torque.  This works OK but with 200hp it is just about all you can do to steer straight until you get the trim dialed in.  When I replace it I plan to just go with the NFB helm instead of hydraulic.  Cheaper and less problems down the road.

Thank you to all for the help. It is definitely engine torque as all components are well greased and move freely when disconnected.

Trimming the engine up helps but would require fiddling with it every time I go out.

I'll do the Teleflex no feedback conversion.

Thanks again,

Merry Christmas
