Looking at a motor over here for sale used.
500hrs(Maybe)
2000 Yamaha 200hp SSII.
The guy is asking $4500 with rigging.
NADA says $3000-$3500.
What do you think it is worth?
Also, from my understanding, there is really no way to confirm hours on these motors. Is this a correct statement?
-
Kid, I take it your not running a Yam now, so you need the rigging. Considering (2) gauges (digital), all harnessing, binnacle, control cables, yeah, you could probably piece/part all that together from different sources and come in under a grand. But let's say a grand for the rigging, which knocks the motor back to $3500. So offer him $4K for the package...

Just so you know,
I have a 96 250 saltwater series II.
She has 478 hours on her and she runs like a top.
Always serviced and is in good condition.
I have newer gauges and binnacle.
My neighbor offered 4500 for everything including the harness, oil tank and
Prop too.
I am installing a pair of 150's this winter.
I am not sure what I am going to do with the outboard.
They do seem to go higher than the guides quote.
Good luck with the purchase.

When I repowered, I paid 4K for the 2003 250 HPDI I have with 600 HRS, gauges included, no binnacle. Like Bob said, offer 4K with everything, thats not a bad price if its a known good engine
-
4K wound be a good fair offer.

Thanks Gents. Yes I am aware of rigging.
What about hours. THis thing has a computer right? Can you get the hours out of it? Any other diagnostic info?
You know, aside from compression, and lower unit not sure what/how to check on this motor.

Definitely hours and I'm sure quite a bit more. Call your local bay area Yam dealer, ask them what diagnostics an '00 can give you.
Just a little observation here. Lots of people ask pretty generic questions about all different brands of outboards...well, call a dealer! They are not ogres, and most will be happy to answer questions, as long as you don't get too long winded about it...

Bob, the dealers where I live will not give you the time of day.
If your not buying a pair of outboards, they wont even speak to you.

Must be me, Bryan...
Ya see, what I do, is when I encounter a dealer that may show some indifference, I just tell them "Well, let me get a hold of Mother Yamaha and see what they have to say..."
Changes their effin tune REAL quick! People who think their chit doesn't stink can be put in their place with the right verbage...

That does work, these guys are scared to death to lose their Manufacture support, without that no more warranty work, I learned that long go in the car biz.

I have a 2002 200 HP OX66. I'm 99% sure it does NOT have the computer connection for downloading hours, performance history, etc. There is a tool called a "winky blinky" that is used to obtain error codes if the engine is having a problem, but that is about it. I will say that is is a very solid motor if properly maintained.

THanks.
I am going to wait a week or too. If the motor is still for sale, I'll start the bidding.
