I have a 200 CCP with no motor. Does anyone know the optimal shaft length for this boat? I bought it with a blown Johnson 150 20" mounted to it but that's not to say that motor was right for this hull.

25" shaft...

25" shaft...
Agreed :thumleft:
And for future reference Afish, check the Gallery section to see if your model is posted. Basic dimensions like weight, length, hp and we don't have every model year made (we're tryin') but still a quick check.

Good luck.

Thanks guys!

A single needs to be 25" - you can put twin engines with 20" shaft length on as an alternative. :thumleft:

So guys, what happens when you put a 20" shaft on a hull that is supposed to have a 25"? When I bought this boat it came with a 20" 150Hp 1989 Johnson on it. It's been nothing but a PITA since the day I bought it and I just gave it away to a local hillbilly. Given the same HP with the correct shaft length, what differences could I expect. I'm trying to decide my repower between a 140, 150 or 175Hp based on the performance of the previous motor that wasn't even meant for the hull it was mounted on.

I had a 200 HP Mercury on my 200 CCP. Pushed her really nicely. A 175 would would be the minimum if I was going to re-power, but I think the 200 HP is perfect for that hull based on my experience. The CCP'S are heavy and with that deep V there is plenty of hull in the water that has to be pushed.
Are you going with a 2 or 4 stroke? Weight would be a consideration as well.

Any 200 merc will push her well, i've had 2.4 and 2.5 l 150 mercs on mine and they will push her to mid /upper 40's with a 25" 200 lower 1.87's and a 15x17-19 prop.
